Senior Project Manager - Substation Engineering

Location: Fort Worth, TX (Hybrid) Travel: Approximately 20% Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

A leading engineering and infrastructure consulting firm is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Substation Engineering to lead complex transmission and distribution projects throughout the North Texas region. This role offers the opportunity to manage high-profile utility and energy infrastructure programs while helping expand a rapidly growing substation engineering practice.

The ideal candidate brings a combination of engineering expertise, project leadership, client relationship management, and business development experience. This individual will oversee multidisciplinary project teams, manage project financials, support strategic growth initiatives, and serve as a trusted advisor to utility and energy clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead substation engineering projects from concept through completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and overall execution.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects meet safety, quality, and profitability objectives.
  • Develop project proposals, budgets, and contract documents.
  • Participate in client presentations and business development activities.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for project expansion and new client relationships.
  • Monitor project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Provide regular updates on project performance, schedule, and financial health.
  • Support staffing plans and resource allocation across projects.
  • Collaborate with leadership on long-term business planning and regional growth initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key utility and energy clients.
  • Conduct quality reviews for substation design projects, including physical and protection & control (P&C) scopes.
  • Mentor junior project managers and engineering staff.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and professional development efforts.
  • Partner with leadership to drive operational excellence and team growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor"s Degree in Engineering.
  • 7+ years of engineering design and project management experience within the utility, energy, or power delivery industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects with responsibility for financial performance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing project scope, budgets, schedules, and risk.
  • Valid driver"s license and ability to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • 10+ years of substation engineering and project management experience.
  • PMP Certification and/or advanced degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience managing large utility clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Background in transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Worth, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $85.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
