Position Summary
The Operations Project Manager is responsible for the complete operational and financial execution of commercial construction projects from project kickoff through final completion.
This position owns the strategy, planning, scheduling, execution, and financial performance of every assigned project.
You'll develop labor strategies, allocate crews, build production schedules, monitor budgets, protect gross profit margins, and proactively solve operational challenges before they impact project performance.
Success in this role requires balancing customer expectations, field operations, labor efficiency, scheduling, and financial performance simultaneously.
Every operational decision should improve project execution while protecting profitability.
This is not simply a scheduling position—it is a leadership role responsible for delivering projects safely, on time, on budget, and at or above targeted gross profit margins.
Primary Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
- Own the financial performance of assigned projects from award through closeout
- Develop labor strategies that maximize efficiency while protecting profitability
- Monitor budgets, labor costs, lodging, travel, equipment, subcontractor expenses, and production costs
- Forecast project financial performance throughout execution
- Identify financial risks early and implement corrective action
- Collaborate on change order strategy and cost recovery opportunities
- Drive projects to meet or exceed targeted gross profit margins
Project Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and maintain master project schedules
- Coordinate project start dates with customers and field operations
- Forecast manpower requirements weeks in advance
- Balance labor resources across multiple active projects
- Continuously optimize schedules as project conditions change
Crew & Resource Management
- Assign crews based on skill set, certifications, availability, and project requirements
- Maximize crew utilization while minimizing idle time
- Coordinate travel logistics and project mobilizations
- Ensure field teams have the resources necessary for successful execution
Project Execution
- Monitor production across multiple active projects
- Remove operational obstacles before they impact production
- Coordinate with Project Coordinators, Field Operations Coordinators, customers, subcontractors, and leadership
- Ensure projects remain aligned with schedules, budgets, quality expectations, and customer commitments
Operational Leadership
- Lead production planning meetings
- Review field reports and production metrics
- Analyze project performance and operational trends
- Escalate issues before they become delays or cost overruns
- Continuously improve processes and execution standards

Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction projects, field operations, production, or construction logistics
- Demonstrated experience managing project budgets and financial performance
- Strong understanding of labor planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
Preferred
- Commercial renovation or retail construction experience
- Multi-site project management experience
- Experience using Procore or similar construction management software
- Experience leading traveling field crews
- Strong understanding of job costing, gross profit management, and operational analytics
