JOB DESCRIPTION

Role purpose.
Lead business and functional projects from definition through handoff, creating clarity across stakeholders, plans, decisions, risks, dependencies, and outcomes. This role is designed for an experienced business-oriented project manager who can quickly establish governance, translate business objectives into executable plans, and drive cross-functional delivery. Technical fluency is valuable, but deep technical project management is not the primary focus.

Primary Responsibilities
Project definition and planning. Partner with sponsors and business leaders to clarify objectives, scope, success measures, deliverables, assumptions, constraints, resources, milestones, and decision rights.
Delivery leadership. Build and maintain integrated project plans; coordinate work across functional teams; monitor progress; and drive timely execution through completion and operational handoff.
Stakeholder alignment. Establish productive relationships with sponsors, functional leaders, subject matter experts, vendors, and other partners. Facilitate clear decisions, commitments, and accountability.
Governance and reporting. Create an appropriate operating rhythm, including status reporting, working sessions, steering updates, decision logs, and action tracking. Escalate clearly and at the right time.
Risk and dependency management. Identify, assess, document, and actively manage risks, issues, assumptions, constraints, and cross-project dependencies.
Change control. Evaluate proposed changes to scope, schedule, cost, resources, and expected outcomes; document impacts and guide stakeholders through approval and prioritization decisions.
Business process focus. Map current and future-state processes, surface gaps, coordinate requirements, and support practical improvements that are sustainable after project close.
Adoption and transition. Coordinate readiness, communications, training, documentation, stakeholder feedback, and handoff activities with the accountable business owners.
Continuous improvement. Capture lessons learned and recommend fit-for-purpose improvements to project practices, workflows, templates, and governance.

Expected Deliverables
Approved project charter or equivalent project definition, including scope, outcomes, governance, and success measures.
Integrated project plan with milestones, owners, dependencies, and critical decisions.
Current status reporting and maintained logs for risks, issues, actions, decisions, and changes.
Stakeholder and governance cadence with documented outcomes and follow-up.
Business requirements and process documentation at the level appropriate to the engagement.
Readiness, transition, and handoff materials that support ownership after the engagement.
Project closeout summary, including outcomes, open items, and lessons learned.

Required Experience and Capabilities
Demonstrated experience independently leading complex business or functional projects with cross-functional stakeholders.
Strong command of project management fundamentals, including planning, governance, scope, schedule, cost awareness, risks, issues, dependencies, change control, and status reporting.
Ability to translate broad business objectives into clear workstreams, deliverables, ownership, and measurable outcomes.
Executive-ready written and verbal communication, with the judgment to tailor detail for sponsors, leaders, and project teams.
Proven facilitation, negotiation, and influence skills in matrixed environments where authority may be indirect.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to synthesize incomplete or conflicting information and drive decisions.
Experience with business process analysis, operational improvement, organizational change, or business transformation initiatives.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work with limited direction, and bring structure to ambiguous situations.
Proficiency with standard project planning, collaboration, reporting, presentation, and documentation tools.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Project management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, or an equivalent credential.
Experience supporting globally distributed teams or multi-region initiatives.
Experience working within a formal PMO, portfolio governance model, or strategic planning environment.
Technical aptitude sufficient to partner effectively with IT, data, systems, security, and vendor teams when a business project has technical dependencies.
Working knowledge of portfolio or strategic portfolio management tools.
Experience with process mapping, requirements elicitation, change management, or operational readiness.

Engagement Principles
Outcome-oriented. The contractor is engaged to deliver defined project outcomes and artifacts, with priorities and milestones agreed with the designated sponsor.
Collaborative. The role works across internal teams and may coordinate third parties, while respecting established decision rights and accountable business ownership.
Adaptable. The contractor should apply an appropriate level of project rigor based on risk, complexity, pace, and stakeholder needs.
Confidential and compliant. The contractor must follow applicable confidentiality, information security, data handling, access, and conduct requirements communicated for the engagement.

Measures of Success
Clear, shared understanding of scope, outcomes, ownership, milestones, and decision paths.
Timely visibility into project health, risks, decisions, dependencies, and required leadership actions.
Deliverables meet agreed acceptance criteria and are transitioned to accountable business owners.
Stakeholders are aligned, informed, and able to make decisions with the information provided.
Project documentation is current, usable, and proportionate to project complexity.
