Description

Are you an experienced Project Manager looking for a change of scenery and the opportunity to see the tangible results of the work you manage?

Do you enjoy bringing order to complex projects, coordinating multiple stakeholders, solving problems, and keeping teams moving toward a common goal?

Juniper Design+ Build is an award-winning residential design/build company working throughout greater Portland, Maine, and the islands of Casco Bay. Our projects are anything but ordinary: you might coordinate complex island logistics one day and oversee the delivery of an entire house by barge the next. We create beautiful, energy-efficient, sustainably built custom homes and renovations.

We're hiring a Project Manager to join our team.

You do not need to come from the construction industry to be successful in this role. We're also interested in experienced Project Managers from manufacturing, software, technology, engineering, aerospace, or other project-driven industries who are interested in applying their skills in a new environment.

If you know how to manage scope, schedules, budgets, stakeholders, competing priorities, and changing conditions, we can help you learn the construction side.

This role offers the opportunity to lead residential construction projects from preconstruction through completion within a collaborative, design-focused team. We offer excellent pay and benefits, including fully paid health insurance, generous paid time off, a tool allowance, and professional development support.

We do things differently

For starters, we're majority women-owned and managed. As much as we admire people with mad skills, we don't hire for skills alone. We have a diverse, respectful, and positive work culture, and a fantastic team, and we're looking for people who really understand the value of that and want to be part of it.

We're invested in helping move the building industry toward more environmentally sustainable practices. We focus on high-performance building and carbon reduction. We're all in on building science and strive to use optimal techniques and materials.

We're always learning. You will be too.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an organized, detail-oriented Project Manager with 3–5 years of direct project management experience.

Your experience may come from construction, manufacturing, software, technology, engineering, aerospace, or another environment where you have been directly responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering complex projects.

You should be comfortable managing multiple projects and priorities while maintaining visibility into schedules, budgets, risks, decisions, and outstanding actions.

Successful candidates will have:

  • 3–5 years of direct project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing schedules, budgets, deliverables, stakeholders, vendors, or cross-functional teams
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to keep projects moving when conditions change
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with clients, coworkers, vendors, trade partners, and leadership
  • Strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Comfort learning new software, processes, terminology, and technical concepts
  • The ability to prioritize competing demands and follow through on commitments
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely with designers, field teams, clients, and trade partners

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is highly desired but not required.

Previous experience in commercial or residential construction is also desired but not required. Experience with Smartsheet, ConstructionOnline, or similar project management platforms is a plus.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who understands good project management: creating clarity, anticipating problems, communicating early, tracking details, and helping a team successfully deliver a project.

What you'll do

As a Project Manager, you'll help lead projects from preconstruction through completion. Depending on the project, responsibilities may include:

  • Developing and maintaining project schedules
  • Tracking project budgets, commitments, and financial performance
  • Coordinating designers, field teams, vendors, suppliers, and trade partners
  • Managing project documentation, decisions, action items, and changes
  • Communicating project status, risks, decisions, and next steps to clients and internal teams
  • Identifying potential schedule, cost, scope, or coordination issues before they become larger problems
  • Supporting procurement and long-lead material planning
  • Helping facilitate project meetings and ensuring follow-up actions are completed
  • Maintaining accurate and organized project records
  • Building strong relationships with clients, coworkers, and trade partners
  • Helping continuously improve Juniper's project management systems and processes

You don't need to arrive knowing every detail of residential construction. You do need to arrive knowing how to manage a project well, ask good questions, learn quickly, and take ownership.

What we offer

  • Salary: $40-45 an hour, determined by experience
  • Health Insurance: 100% employer-paid
  • Paid Time Off: Starting at 120 hours/year, plus 15 holidays
  • Retirement Plan: 3% company match (SIMPLE IRA)
  • Ferry & Cell Phone Stipends
  • Support for professional training and development
  • Opportunities to learn residential construction, building science, and high-performance building
  • A values-aligned team that genuinely enjoys working together
