Project Manager - Mechanical

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Mechanical to lead the delivery of mechanical construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and safety for projects that include HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm systems. This role requires strong technical knowledge, construction management experience and the ability to coordinate interdisciplinary teams and subcontractors to meet client expectations and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the full project lifecycle including planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, commissioning and closeout for mechanical construction projects.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts and schedules; track performance and implement corrective actions to meet cost and timeline targets.
  • Coordinate and supervise design reviews, submittals, shop drawings and value engineering with engineers, designers and subcontractors to ensure constructability and compliance with project requirements.
  • Oversee procurement of materials and equipment, manage vendor relationships, and ensure timely delivery of long-lead items.
  • Direct and coordinate onsite construction activities for HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm systems; supervise subcontractors and craft labor to maintain productivity and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE, local plumbing and mechanical codes) and implement project-specific quality control processes.
  • Manage change orders, claims and contract administration; prepare and present regular project status reports to owners, stakeholders and senior management.
  • Enforce safety programs and site-specific safety plans; lead toolbox talks and ensure subcontractor adherence to company and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Facilitate commissioning, start-up and functional testing of mechanical and fire protection/alarm systems; coordinate turnover documentation and training for owners.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate project risks; maintain effective communication with clients, design teams and internal stakeholders throughout the project.
  • Mentor and develop junior project staff, promote teamwork and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum 58 years of progressive mechanical construction or contracting experience with documented project management responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience with HVAC, piping, plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm systems on commercial, industrial or institutional projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, building codes and standards (NFPA, ASHRAE, local mechanical/plumbing codes).
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, schedules and subcontractor performance; experience with cost control and forecasting.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and client-facing skills; experience negotiating contracts and managing change orders.
  • Familiarity with project management and construction software (MS Project, Primavera, Procore, BIM tools) and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Relevant certifications a plus: PMP, CCM, NICET (fire protection), or trade-related licenses and certifications.
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to job sites as required.
  • Commitment to safety culture and experience implementing site-specific safety programs.
