Description

Hampton Roads area, Virginia // Exempt, salaried

THE ROLE

You lead the overall planning and management of MEB's Commercial/Architectural projects: schools, public libraries, recreation and sports centers, civic facilities, and hospitality. Your responsibility is to protect MEB's contractual and financial position while supporting the field team in delivering a safe, high-quality project on schedule and with a clean turnover.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • The project P&L. Make commitments, execute subcontracts and purchase orders, approve change orders, and approve invoices and payments per company policy.
  • The project plan. Establish it in partnership with the Superintendent, and manage cost forecasting and billing.
  • The master schedule. Build and manage it in Primavera P6, including the schedule of values and impact analysis.
  • Subcontractor award and management. Award the work, and track submittals and long-lead materials.
  • Design and preconstruction. Coordinate design and preconstruction requirements. On design-build projects, carry the design team through delivery.
  • Contract administration and risk. Resolve scope, design, and contract issues before they affect the work, and negotiate change orders to resolution.
  • Client and consultant communication. Maintain it with the owner, architect, consultants, trade partners, and internal teams.
  • Safety, closeout, and people. Develop the site-specific safety plan with the safety department, hold full stop-work authority, manage closeout, and develop your Project Engineers.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 8+ years of construction project management across at least 6 completed projects, including at least two you managed independently from preconstruction through closeout
  • Demonstrated P&L ownership on subcontractor-delivered building work. Be ready to walk us through a job where the forecast moved and what you did about it
  • Experience across delivery methods. Design-build, including coordinating a design team through delivery, is a plus. Public and institutional owners preferred: K-12, municipal, civic, or recreation
  • CPM scheduling in Primavera P6, including schedule of values and time-impact analysis
  • Hands-on Viewpoint across buyout, change orders, billing, and projections, or comparable ERP you can transfer quickly
  • Experience negotiating contested change orders to resolution with owners and design teams
  • Bachelor's in engineering, construction management, or building construction preferred, or equivalent experience. OSHA 30, valid driver's license, USACE or NAVFAC CQC certificate

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Assignment varies by project. You may be embedded full time at one jobsite, rotate between several, or split time between an office and the field
  • Walk active jobsites over uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and work around heavy equipment in outdoor conditions; required PPE
  • Extended computer work. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs

COMPENSATION

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $115,000 to $165,000 per year. This is the range we expect to pay someone starting in this position. Where an offer lands within it depends on the experience you bring, the certifications and technical skills that apply to this work, the scope you have carried before, and what we pay people already doing equivalent work here. The range covers base pay. It is a starting range, not a ceiling. People move up through it and past it as they grow with us.

WHY MEB

  • Employee ownership. MEB is employee owned. Through our ESOP, the people who build the work own the business behind it.
  • Benefits. MEB pays the medical and dental premiums for our employees. We also offer vision, disability, and life insurance, FSA and HSA options, a matching 401(k), tuition reimbursement, a health and wellness program, and paid time off.
  • Room to grow. The project management track runs from Project Engineer through Project Executive. You will know what the next step requires, and we back people while they get there rather than waiting for them to arrive ready.
  • Core values. Clients First, Safety Matters, and Family by Choice. You will see them on the jobsite, not just in the handbook.
  • Who we are. Founded in 1982, MEB is a Virginia-based construction firm with more than 475 employees, headquartered in Chesapeake with a regional office in Richmond. We build resilient environments: projects that improve the communities we work in, locally and nationwide.
