Advertised Job Summary

Coordination and oversight of capital projects for the Department of Facilities of the University of South Carolina including overall monitoring of contract development and administration, the planning, design, bidding, construction, administration and close out phases of project performance.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and 6 years demonstrated project management experience with the design, construction and management of major construction building projects; or bachelors degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or related field from an accredited college or university and 8 years demonstrated project management experience with the design, construction and management of major construction building projects.

Professional certification as a construction manager, professional project manager, or licensure as an Architect or Engineer in the State of South Carolina is preferred but not required.

Experience with Higher Education, Medical or Athletics programming, design and construction.

Ability to manage and oversee multiple complex design and construction projects.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of principles and practices of modern architecture, design engineering and facility construction/maintenance.

Knowledge of codes, laws, rules and regulations governing the construction and/or modification of facilities.

Knowledge of principles and practices of effective project management.

The ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations; manage work and provide guidance to colleagues; make presentations and prepare reports; manage and prioritize a large and complex work load with short time frames; make decisions with limited information and a strong knowledge base; resolve problems and communicate outcomes; interpret plans; interact with various levels of personnel; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; use technology; solve problems; utilize conscious decision making; and build teams and involve stakeholders. Knowledge of contractual responsibilities, processes and procedures governed by the AIA architectural agreements (Series A, B and C).

Ability to oversee the work of subordinate architects, engineers or construction managers. Ability to establish positive working relationships with customers/clients, superiors, subordinates, associates, design and construction consultants, and with State, Local and/or Federal professional personnel and other public and/or private sector organizations and individuals.

Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to problem solve and utilize effective conscious decision making.

Ability to build teams and involve stakeholders.

Demonstrated competence performing technical review of plans and specifications.
