JOB OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Project Manager Level 2 to join our team.
This unique position blends engineering expertise with project management and oversight responsibilities, acting as a vital extension of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) – District 1 staff, and coordinating 10 to 20 design teams to rebuild portions of mainline Interstate 290 and various overhead bridges between Mannheim Road and Racine Avenue. This 4-year assignment offers unparallelled visibility with IDOT leadership, all while gaining experience in design coordination, stakeholder alignment, and large-scale corridor management.
This position is full-time and will typically report in-person to the Illinois Department of Transportation District 1 office in Schaumburg, Illinois.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and coordinate the work of design consultants, including leading meetings, reviewing plans, and maintaining consistent project documentation and communication.
- Oversee and track project schedules and compliance, while verifying all engineering activities align with department and industry standards.
- Facilitate collaboration and problem solving with municipalities, stakeholders, and internal/external teams through meetings, presentations, and information sharing platforms.
- Coordinate corridor project delivery, including construction sequencing, traffic management, environmental studies, permitting, utility relocations, land acquisition, and geotechnical reporting.
- Provide ongoing project updates as well as technical advice and perform additional support tasks as needed to ensure successful project outcomes.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Eight to 12 years of related engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois or current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, track schedules and budgets, and administer contracts.
- Strong familiarity with Phase II Design engineering services, specifically related to bridges, retaining walls, and highway structures.
- Proficiency in MicroStation.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques for project solutions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & SUPERVISION
You will typically work independently and receive general instructions for new assignments, while day-to-day activities require little supervision. Collaboration and coordination with internal teams, external consultants, and municipal partners are key aspects of the role.
