The Project Manager is accountable for overseeing the oil & gas production facilities onshore and offshore. The role builds and leads a mixed team of office-based project personnel and field supervisory/operations support staff, integrates engineering, permitting, logistics, HSE, medical, and contractor services, and serves as the primary interface with the client on scope, cost, schedule, risk, and performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Delivery
- Translate client objectives into an executable work plan covering production support, facility support, project controls, permitting interfaces, logistics, camp/aviation support, and remote medical coverage as required;
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, and HSE performance against agreed baselines; report status, variances, and recovery plans; and
- Coordinate multi-discipline teams and third-party contractors so field operations have the people, equipment, permits, and information they need when they need them.
Planning and Controls
- Lead or support AFE/work-package development, resource loading, and look-ahead planning for seasonal and year-round programs;
- Establish and maintain project controls: cost tracking, schedule updates, change management, risk registers, and lessons learned;
- Support performance-based contracting and vendor management; monitor contractor performance and commercial exposure; and
- Identify early constraints typical of Alaska programs (ice roads, open-water windows, aviation weather, permitting lead times, camp capacity, equipment freeze-up) and build mitigation into the plan.
Operations interface
- Provide operational oversight and decision support to field support personnel;
- Participate in project planning, after-action reviews, incident investigations, and operational readiness reviews; and
- Travel to field locations, as required, to verify readiness, resolve issues, and maintain client confidence.
Leadership and People
- Retain a team of office-based project staff and field supervisory/operations personnel.;
- Set expectations for safety, integrity, and execution quality; coach supervisors and junior project staff; and
- Coordinate with HSE, Regulatory/Permitting, Medical, Logistics, and Quality functions so program delivery meets company and client standards.
Safety, Compliance, and Environment
- Hold safety as a non-negotiable operating condition. Stop work when conditions are unsafe;
- Ensure work is planned and executed in line with client HSE systems, Fairweather QHSE requirements, and applicable federal, state, and North Slope/Cook Inlet operating rules; and
- Integrate environmental and regulatory constraints into execution plans; work closely with permitting and non-technical risk teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (petroleum, mechanical, or related) or equivalent drilling/completions experience in lieu of degree;
- 10+ years of drilling and completions experience;
- 3+ years of Alaska experience (North Slope, Cook Inlet, or other remote Alaska operations strongly preferred);
- 5+ years of leadership experience directing project or operations teams;
- Demonstrated experience managing or supporting multi-well or multi-contractor drilling programs;
- Legally authorized to work in the United States;
- Ability to travel to remote Alaska locations and work a field-support schedule as program needs require; and
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet client site-access, medical, and training requirements (e.g., North Slope orientation, H2S, first aid as applicable).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience directing large, multi-discipline project teams.
- Arctic, ice-road, offshore/Cook Inlet, or remote exploration program experience.
- Project management credential (PMP or equivalent) and/or formal well-control certification (IWCF or IADC).
- Experience with performance-based contracting, AFEs, and operator-side or contractor-side drilling program management.
- Familiarity with Alaska permitting, landowner/agency interfaces, and operator management systems used on the North Slope.
- Prior Fairweather, operator, or major contractor experience in Alaska oil and gas.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong command of drilling program planning: well design interfaces, rig and services coordination, logistics, and seasonal execution;
- Project controls fluency: cost, schedule, change, and risk—not just status reporting;
- Calm, structured decision-making under operational pressure;
- Clear written and verbal communication with clients, field crews, regulators, and executives;
- Commercial awareness: scope discipline, contractor performance, and protection of both client and Fairweather interests;
- Ability to work across engineering, HSE, regulatory, medical, aviation/weather, and logistics functions; and
- High personal integrity and alignment with Fairweather’s safety-and-service culture.
