Project Engineer Position
MWA, Inc. - Truckee, CA office is seeking a well-rounded and self-motivated applicant for immediate placement as an Project Engineer for custom residential, multi-family, and commercial projects. This position can grow based on the motivation and tenacity of the individual and their ability to work with our team.

Qualifications
MS or BS degree in engineering with structural emphasis from an accredited engineering program.
Obtained EIT certification. Pursuing or has obtained professional licensure (PE).
6+ years of relevant experience with a required minimum of 3+ years of work experience in the Truckee-Tahoe area.
Working knowledge of softwares such as Revit, Autocad, Excel, Enercalc, and Risa3D.
Familiarity with current building codes including IBC, CBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 341 & 360, NDS & SPDWS, and TMS 402/602.
Requirements:
Physical Body Positions and Movements: Standing, kneeling, bending and sitting for long periods of time. Carrying, use of hands, arms, legs, eyes, ears and voice. Must be able to negotiate rugged terrain on foot and able to drive a vehicle.
Physical Appearance: Must be presentable.
Mental: Good design and problem-solving skills.
Language requirements are reading, writing, spelling and ability to communicate clearly in English. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints.
Job Description
Reports to Principal Engineer
Engineering
Assume structural lead role including oversight of structural designer(s).
Prepare structural design including framing layouts, member sizing, lateral design, and detailing for structural projects.
Prepare engineering calculations to support structural design using a combination of hand calculations, spreadsheets, and analysis software.
Able to work in and incorporate structural information into project models in Revit.
May delegate portions of structural design to structural designer(s) and oversee their performance.
Perform structural observations of projects during construction and prepare letter documenting findings.
Responds to questions during construction, both formally and informally.
Provide guidance to the architectural team in early phases of the project as architects explore potential structural systems.
Notifies appropriate parties including project architect and principals when a problem with the design is encountered.
Suggests potential construction cost saving opportunities to the architect.
Maintain MWA, Inc. operations, quality and CAD standards relative to the structural design of the project.
Project Management
Monitors structural design progress with understanding of internal milestones and submittal deadlines.
Plans project work and proactively approaches other team members to secure design information needed to perform the work in a timely manner.
Communicates with the principals, architectural lead, and other structural team members on a regular basis throughout the design of the project.
Participate in project meetings and discussions, providing technical input and collaborating with other disciplines.
Review and quality-control drawings prior to handoff for final review by principals.
Occasionally research new products and assemblies, review building code requirements, etc.
Occasionally assist with other duties assigned by management.
Business development
Assists in estimating project fees/hours for inclusion in larger proposals.
May prepare proposals for smaller projects under supervision of the Principal Engineer.

Estimated hourly compensation (depending on experience). The estimated range reflects the value of our total compensation package, including employer-paid benefits, paid vacation, paid sick leave, 401(k) matching, health insurance, and bonus opportunities: $37.10 - $56.18
The open position is for a Project Engineer with 6+ years of experience. The shown upper range of estimated hourly pay is for exceptionally qualified individuals with proven competence in the necessary skills.
