Job Title: Project EngineerJob Description

The Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of heavy civil and water/wastewater construction projects by coordinating field activities, managing project documentation, and assisting with budgeting and cost control. This long-term role offers strong growth potential, including a clear path toward a future Project Manager position, within a stable organization that has a substantial project backlog and significant opportunity for early advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers with project budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting to help keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Monitor project schedules, identify potential delays or bottlenecks, and recommend adjustments to improve efficiency and execution.
  • Manage submittals, ensuring all project documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on time to meet contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in preparing subcontractor and supplier agreements, including drafting and tracking change documentation and related project records.
  • Partner closely with field leadership, including Superintendents and Foremen, to help maintain a safe, productive, and well-coordinated jobsite.
  • Help coordinate day-to-day construction activities, ensuring work is performed to the required quality standards and that project milestones are met.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to track project progress, resolve issues, and support effective decision-making in the field and office.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to support smooth project execution.
  • Use Microsoft Office and design tools such as AutoCAD and Revit to prepare reports, track data, and assist with project documentation and coordination.
  • Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail and thorough documentation.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1+ years of Project Engineer experience in the construction industry, specifically within water/wastewater or heavy civil projects.
  • Hands-on experience supporting construction projects such as treatment plants, lift stations, booster stations, reclamation facilities, or similar infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, to support reporting, communication, and documentation.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and Revit for reviewing and coordinating project drawings and models.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify issues, evaluate options, and contribute to effective project solutions.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with project teams, field personnel, and external stakeholders.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach to working with Project Managers, field leadership, and project partners.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation, submittals, agreements, and project records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Direct water and wastewater project experience is preferred and considered a strong asset.
  • Interest in professional growth and a desire to progress into a Project Manager role over time.
  • Comfort working in both office and field environments, including active construction sites.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project demands and schedules while maintaining a high standard of work quality.

Work Environment

This is a salaried position primarily supporting projects located in and around Yuma, Peoria, Glendale, and the greater Phoenix metro area. Typical projects include water and wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, booster stations, reclamation facilities, and other heavy civil infrastructure. The Project Engineer will spend the majority of their time in the field on active project sites, working closely with field leadership and project teams. Standard hours are generally Monday through Friday, either 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility required to adjust based on project demands. The role does not require out-of-state travel, offering stability and consistency in location. The work environment combines field-based activity with the use of standard office technologies and software tools to support planning, coordination, and reporting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
