Summary:

  • This position is represented by the Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining.
  • The role is for a journey-level engineer who has mastered Associate engineer skills and duties, and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects.
  • Exercise independent judgment in applying engineering principles and work with minimal supervision.
  • Collaboration with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, and other business partners to assess project needs is essential.
  • Additional responsibilities include developing technical studies and reports, providing guidance to contractors and outside vendors, and traveling to/from project-related functions approximately 10% of the time.

Responsibilities:

  • Resolve problems of moderate scope using standard solutions.
  • Independently plan work under general direction; progress reviewed periodically for technical accuracy.
  • Perform functions of Associate level Engineer as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise, conduct engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs.
  • Present findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Conduct walkdowns and design review meetings.
  • Prepare technical documents including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reports.
  • Develop, evaluate, and recommend alternative project proposals.
  • Solicit, prepare, and evaluate contracts/proposals from engineering consultants.
  • Review consultant contracts for technical compliance.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and regulations.
  • Participate in developing restoration plans and assist in root cause analysis.
  • Approve reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings.
  • Respond promptly to facility failures in emergencies.
  • Represent the company to government bodies for assigned projects.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited US curriculum or equivalent from outside the US.
  • Minimum 3 years of cumulative experience in engineering and design.

Preferred Skills:

  • Electrical transmission line engineering for 115kv–500kv.
  • Strong familiarity with GO 95, NESC, and company transmission line standards and construction practices.
  • Strong familiarity with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, etc.
  • Skills in project management.
