Description A Project Engineer at Burns & McDonnell is the essential technical partner supporting our project teams in the industrial water market. In this role you will provide the critical high-level direction to all engineering design efforts driving project delivery. You will manage the intricate details of the design process directly impacting the successful execution of our most technical projects.
What You Will Do
• Serve as project engineer on medium to large multi-disciplinary design-only and/or design-build EPC projects with the ability to serve as a project manager on smaller design-only or early FEL phase projects under the supervision of a project manager. • Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination and manage the overall engineering design efforts for design-only and/or EPC projects. • Perform independent quality and completeness reviews of engineering deliverables. • Support the development of project cost estimates. • Manage development of discipline budgets and the overall projects professional services budget and work breakdown structure (WBS). • Support development of project schedules. • Coordinate schedule progression, updates, and budget progress tracking functions with the project team. • Coordinate discipline design change notifications and draft client change orders. • Perform internal and client design reviews. • Facilitate internal and external project meetings and publish meeting minutes. • Maintain project management lists, action items, risk, key decisions, etc., and manage design RFIs. • Prepare monthly client status reports. • Support vendor expediting efforts, submittals, fabrication, delivery. • Develop vendor quality oversight plans. • Direct procurement process, equipment, piping, instruments, etc. • Direct field engineering services from home office and/or field locations. • Support the development of subcontract plans, subcontractor bid packages, and the award of subcontracts. • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies. • Support proposal development and production. • Assist in mentoring and retention of junior staff. • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university and 3 years of detailed engineering design experience for design-only and/or EPC projects. 5 years of experience preferred.
Ability to work collaboratively with others, Owners, Contractors, Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
Strong facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Highly effective communicator with clear and concise writing and presentation skills.
High level of attention to detail.
Proficient computer skills, e.g., Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to develop and manage work plans, schedules, and budgets, and provide leadership to a diverse project team (a plus).
Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
