Position Summary Perform all essential functions of a supporting project engineer for multiple, concurrent small to large Substation Division (SSD) project orders. Function as lead project engineer for multiple, concurrent small to medium SSD project orders or one large project order.

Essential Functions

  • Design, develop, and coordinate multiple components and systems of high voltage substation projects.
  • Coordinate design and development work of external design contractors and engineering consultants.
  • Review order documents to ensure they meet the customers technical specifications, including exceptions, clarification, and confirmations.
  • Develop and execute engineering tasks related to design, construction, and testing of power electronics-based substation projects and gas-insulated substation projects.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of drawings and documents in support of orders.
  • Provide project oversight at the installation site during construction and testing.
  • Prepare and present customer training.
  • Provide expertise and support in multiple disciplines to other engineers.
  • Assure resolution of all customer and supplier technical questions.
  • Provide field problem troubleshooting and resolution of existing equipment.
  • Support sales efforts by reviewing and commenting on customer technical specifications.
  • Prepare technical exceptions including customer deviations from existing MELCO product designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in electrical or mechanical engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a project environment, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Basic knowledge of real power (MW) and reactive power (Mvar).
  • Advanced knowledge of substation equipment, instrumentation, structures, conductors, and relay protection and control.
  • Advanced interpersonal, communication and presentation skills required to communicate with customers and employees.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and create technical drawings and material.
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft Office products, CAD, and engineering analysis software.
