    Job Summary

    The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention (IFIP) is a transdisciplinary institute that works to engage the breadth of expertise across the University of Michigan, with input from nonacademic stakeholders, to generate knowledge and advance solutions that will decrease firearm injury in the United States. The Institute also serves as a national hub for research that will drive new solutions to this public health crisis and will train the next generation of leaders in the field. The Institute is supported by an organizational structure that provides internal oversight and external guidance and focuses activities across six cores: 1) research, 2) education and training, 3) community engagement, 4) policy, 5) implementation, and 6) data and methods; and across six pillars: firearm-related suicide, firearm-related intimate partner violence, community violence, unintentional shootings, police shootings, and mass/school violence.

    We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented project coordinator to work closely with the team at the Institute to develop, design, and conduct Institute projects and initiatives. The staff will work with the Coordinating Center team to support community-based firearm violence research. The Community Firearm Violence Prevention (CFVP) Network is a National Institutes for Health (NIH) supported community-academic research collaboration working to prevent firearm violence across the United States through developing, implementing, and evaluating innovative community-based interventions. The Coordinating Center (housed in IFIP) coordinates five research projects across the country, a steering committee, a stakeholder committee, and the NIH, in a cohesive network to evaluate the efficacy of community-based firearm violence interventions across various settings and populations.

    Key initial activities include developing center activities, providing centralized administrative, operational, and logistical support to network activities, support cross-project communication and coordination, provide technical assistance to network projects regarding research design and statistical methods, project management and collaboration across the Coordinating Center's cores.

    The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Coordinating Center Managing Director. This person is expected to understand and support the conduct of research within all federal, state and local regulatory requirements.

    The job functions of this role will include, but are not limited to:

    • Assisting the Coordinating Center Managing Director with CFVP Network-related activities as needed.
    • Building strong relationships with the CFVP project sites, IFIP partners, stakeholders and communities to facilitate engagement and collaboration.
    • Coordinate meetings including work with the administrative coordinator to schedule meetings, coordinating meeting agendas, preparing meeting materials, taking notes, maintaining up-to-date documentation and files as needed.
    • Coordinate activities among the workgroups to enhance opportunities, as well as enhance the pipeline of researchers in both CFVP and cores within IFIP.
    • Coordinate internal and external meetings of research teams, coordinate participant recruitment, incentive payments, grant tracking.
    • Organize and participate in site visits to community locations.
    • Document and catalog activities for sharing across projects within CFVP.
    • Host meetings for the network.
    • Record and incorporate community input into best practice for Coordinating Center and IFIP.
    • Communicate on a consistent basis with team members, supervisors, colleagues, providing input on project goals, objectives, and operations.
    • Facilitate monthly workgroups meetings.
    • Draft meeting agendas and prepare PowerPoint presentations.
    • Assist with drafting and disseminating communications about Coordinating Center.
    • Assisting with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications for research study approvals, amendments and continuations and Data Use Agreements (DUA).
    • Additional activities may include tracking and reporting on activities, preparing internal and NIH reports, preparing slides, drafting one-pagers, planning and organizing events.

    Required Qualifications*

    • Bachelor's degree in a related field, Master preferred. (associate level); Master's degree in related field (intermediate level).

    • 1-3 years (associate level) or 4-5 years (intermediate level) of related experience and/or research project coordination with a demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to deadline.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google programs (e.g., Gmail, calendar, Drive); and Zoom.

    • Prior experience with eResearch and preparation of new study applications, event reporting, continuing reviews, etc.

    • Experience coordinating or working on behavioral research projects.

    • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects to deadline.

    • Effective organization and management of multiple priorities in a complex environment.

    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

    • Careful attention to detail.

    • Ability to work independently and as a successful team member.

    Desired Qualifications*

    • Experience with academic research enterprises including externally sponsored research, research administration, and funding sources.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of firearm injury prevention is preferred, but not necessary.

    • Experience in REDCap, Qualtrics, Dedoose and the Airtable platform.

    Modes of Work

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

    Work Schedule

    This position is for a hybrid work schedule of both in-person and remote work with 2 days of on campus work (Ann Arbor campus) expected each week.

    This position may be filled at the level of Research Area Specialist Intermediate (102907) or Research Area Specialist Associate (102905) depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
