An award-winning architecture firm is seeking an experienced Project Architect to support the delivery of complex embassy campus projects around the world. This role is ideal for a mid-to-high level architect who enjoys being deeply involved in both design and technical delivery, and who can serve as a bridge between emerging professionals and project leadership. You will help shape schematic design concepts, guide them through design development and construction documentation, and ensure they are successfully implemented. In addition to providing strong technical leadership, you will mentor junior staff, strengthen project execution, and play a key role in coordinating multidisciplinary teams on high-profile international and federal projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the production and coordination of comprehensive construction document sets in Revit for complex embassy and institutional projects.
• Review drawing sets, technical details, and project documentation to ensure quality, accuracy, and constructability.
• Provide clear redlines and technical guidance to junior architects and designers to elevate the overall quality of project deliverables.
• Ensure project standards, building codes, and client requirements are consistently met throughout all phases of design and documentation.
• Assist in removing review bottlenecks by providing an additional layer of project oversight and quality control.
• Serve as a key technical resource responsible for the successful delivery of complex, multi-phase projects from schematic design through construction.
• Mentor and develop junior team members, helping them build technical skills, deepen project understanding, and grow professionally.
• Support project planning, staffing, and workflow management to keep projects on schedule and aligned with client goals.
• Guide projects through schematic design, design development, and construction documentation, ensuring design intent is maintained.
• Collaborate closely with project leadership to maintain schedules, manage priorities, and achieve project milestones.
• Coordinate with engineering and specialty consultants, as well as internal architecture and planning teams, to resolve technical and design challenges.
• Participate in planning meetings and project coordination sessions to align disciplines and maintain clear communication.
• Communicate technical requirements across disciplines and support integrated collaboration between architecture, planning, and consultant teams.
• Contribute to construction administration efforts as needed, helping to interpret documents and support successful project delivery.

Essential Skills

• Licensed Architect with current professional registration.
• 7-10+ years of architectural experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Strong experience in schematic design, design development, and construction documentation for commercial or institutional projects.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit, including performing design changes and producing detailed construction document sets.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex project teams and multiple consultants on large, technically challenging projects.
• Experience reviewing work and mentoring junior architects and designers.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with federal, institutional, civic, international, or embassy projects is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in architectural design, construction administration, and design development workflows.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on high-profile government or federal projects is a plus.
• experience in international project work and familiarity with embassy or campus-scale projects is highly valued.
• Ability to provide clear, constructive feedback and support an official mentoring program.
• Comfort collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering and specialty consultants.
• Interest in pursuing technical project architect or project management career paths, including professional registration support.

The firm offers a very casual yet fast-paced work environment with an inclusive culture and a friendly, team-oriented atmosphere. The studio recently moved into a brand-new office space and is gradually bringing teams back into the office several days per week. You can expect a mix of in-office work and flexible scheduling, with an expectation to work diligently given the heavy backlog of guaranteed projects. The environment includes regular weekly lunch-and-learn sessions with provided lunches, monthly team events such as kickball and social gatherings, and an official mentoring program where you are paired with a mentor to support your growth, whether toward a technical project architect or project manager path. The firm's strong pipeline of work offers opportunities for overtime, as well as the chance to support varied international projects, visit project sites, and work on high-profile government and federal assignments. The office dress code is casual, reflecting a relaxed yet professional atmosphere focused on collaboration, learning, and high-quality project delivery.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $60.00/hr.
