Step into a day on the press line
The horn sounds and you’re already scanning blueprints and work instructions for the first run. You rig a steel coil with the overhead crane, thread it through the decoiler, straightener, and feeder, and bring a 200T press to life through the HMI. You verify the die setup, complete the first-article inspection, fine-tune the mechanical adjustments, and kick off production—capturing data in SAP as you go. Between jobs, you handle rapid changeovers, keep lubrication systems on point, and shuttle parts and scrap with a sit-down forklift. It’s high-precision, fast-paced automotive manufacturing—and you own the rhythm.
What you’ll do
- Set up and run stamping presses across a 50T–450T tonnage range, including progressive and deep draw work.
- Support die setups, adjustments, changeovers, and first-article inspections for new jobs.
- Load and unload steel coils with overhead cranes and thread coil-fed lines (decoilers, straighteners, feeders).
- Operate through HMI controls, monitor performance, and dial in mechanical corrections as needed.
- Conduct quality checks, document production results, and record SPC data in SAP.
- Move materials and remove scrap with a sit-down forklift to keep the cell flowing.
- Maintain machine lubrication systems and complete accurate production logs.
What you bring
- Willingness to travel for contract-based assignments.
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating stamping presses, punch presses, or progressive die equipment.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, work instructions, and inspection documents.
- Fluency with both metric and imperial units—and converting between them.
- Mechanical troubleshooting know-how and strong quality inspection skills.
- Background with forklifts and overhead cranes preferred.
- Comfort working where quick changeovers and frequent setups are the norm.
If you’re energized by precision, pace, and problem-solving, this role puts your pressroom skills front and center—where every adjustment you make shows up in the parts on the pallet.
