Introduction
Marylandâs Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program ensures all workers in Maryland have paid time off for medical and family reasons. FAMLI is a social insurance system covering 2.6 million workers and 180,000 employers, delivered as a digitally native, public-facing service. Weâre in the early stages of building something as big and as far-reaching as unemployment insurance or a new health department. The Deputy Assistant Secretary is the most senior executive leader of the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) Division of the Maryland Department of Labor (MDOL), working under the direction of the Assistant Secretary for FAMLI and Deputy Secretary of Modernization. You should be comfortable working in a startup environment where you think independently and operate with a high degree of autonomy. Weâre looking for self-starters who are skilled at driving projects forward while communicating and collaborating closely on teams.

Main Purpose of Job
Deputy Assistant Secretary is the senior most staff member of the Assistant Secretary for the Division of Family Medical Leave Insurance. Responsible for directing programs within the division that have a broad scope and major impact on agency missions and operations. The Deputy provides leadership on methods, procedures, management, and technical matters to FAMLI senior staff members and other managers with the Department and consults with the Assistant Secretary regarding program objectives and standards. Represents and fulfills the responsibilities of the Assistant Secretary in his/her absence as required
