    Summary:

    • The Program Manager will serve as the day-to-day operational lead for building the total joint pathway, coordinating the handoffs, tracking readiness, monitoring KPIs, and making sure the program is organized before cases begin and reliable once cases are underway. This person will make sure there is no drop-off between the surgeon office, scheduling, preoperative intake, anesthesia readiness, nursing, therapy, home care, discharge planning, quality, finance, and operations. This role will also support other perioperative or procedural initiatives when appropriate. The Program Manager will bring structure, follow-up, and KPI discipline to other perioperative priorities.

    Responsibilities:

    • Outpatient Total Joint Program Launch Serves as the operational lead for establishing the outpatient total joint program. Maintains the workplan, timeline, readiness checklist, issue log, follow-up list, and launch materials. Coordinates the build across surgeon offices, schedulers, preoperative teams, anesthesia, nursing, therapy, home care, finance, quality, supply chain, and operations. Makes sure each step in the total joint pathway is clear, assigned, and monitored. Identifies gaps in the process before they become patient care, access, cancellation, or operational problems. Keeps leaders informed about progress, barriers, risks, and decisions needed. Helps build a practical workflow that can be repeated as additional total joint surgeons are added.
    • Patient Pathway and Handoff Reliability Follows the outpatient total joint pathway from the surgeon office decision for surgery through intake, optimization, surgery, discharge planning, and post-discharge support. Ensures patients do not fall through the cracks between the office, hospital or ASC scheduling, preoperative evaluation, therapy, home care, and day-of-surgery teams. Tracks patients who are not ready, missing steps, or at risk for cancellation or delay. Escalates issues early to the right leader or team. Works with clinical and operational leaders to improve communication, reliability, and the patient experience. Supports onboarding of new surgeon offices and staff as the total joint program expands.
    • Metrics, Quality, and Readiness Tracks key total joint program measures, including scheduling, intake completion, preoperative readiness, cancellations, delays, first case starts, discharge readiness, patient experience, complications, readmissions, and other agreed KPIs. Maintains simple dashboards, scorecards, and status updates that show whether the program is on track. Reviews trends and help identify where the pathway is working and where it needs improvement. Supports quality and performance improvement work related to the outpatient total joint program. Helps ensure that the program follows agreed best practices, selection criteria, readiness standards, and escalation pathways. Prepares concise updates for leadership meetings, steering groups, and operational workgroups.
    • Growth and Standardization Helps create a practical playbook for outpatient total joint growth. Supports the addition of new total joint surgeons, office staff, APPs, schedulers, and other team members. Makes sure new teams understand the workflow, expectations, documentation needs, communication pathways, and performance goals. Looks for variation between offices or teams and help standardize the best approach. Serves as a connector between clinical leaders, administrative teams, and frontline staff. Helps make the program less dependent on informal follow-up, individual memory, or last-minute workarounds.
    • Perioperative and Procedural Initiatives Applies the same approach to other perioperative priorities: organize the work, define the pathway, identify gaps, assign owners, track KPIs, and escalate barriers. Supports new program launches, workflow redesign, access improvement, patient flow work, quality initiatives, or other perioperative projects where structured operational support is needed. Helps create a repeatable approach for launching and improving perioperative programs across Pennsylvania Hospital. Maintains the outpatient total joint program as the initial and anchor responsibility while supporting broader perioperative needs when capacity and priorities allow.
