We are looking for a coach who brings energy, experience, and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes within a values-driven environment grounded in Inquiry, Care, Integrity, Agency, and Interconnection.

At UHS, athletics are an essential part of the student experience. You'll join a collaborative and mission-aligned athletic department focused on helping students grow not only as competitors, but as teammates, leaders, and people. UHS is a coeducational independent day school located in San Francisco, serving 540 students in grades 9-12. Our mission challenges each individual to live a life of integrity, inquiry, and purpose larger than the self.

About the Role

As Program Director and Varsity Head Coach, you will serve as the strategic and cultural leader of the Girls Volleyball program. You will oversee all levels of the program (Varsity and Junior Varsity), shaping a unified vision for player development, team culture, and competitive success.

This role goes beyond the court. It's about building a program that reflects the best of high school athletics-where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.

Build a Strong Team Culture

Foster an environment rooted in accountability, respect, and joy. Emphasize teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

Develop and Support Coaching Staff

Collaborate with and mentor assistant and JV coaches to ensure strong communication, continuity, and shared purpose.

Ensure Compliance & Safety

Adhere to all league, CIF, and NFHS regulations, while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all student-athletes.

Collaborate Across the Department

Work closely with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, and administrators. Communicate clearly with families and represent the program with professionalism.

Champion UHS Athletics

Embed the school's mission and values into all aspects of the program, reinforcing the educational value of athletics.

Create an Environment Players Love

Build a program where student-athletes are excited to show up, compete, and be part of something meaningful.

Student-Centered

Able to connect with and support high school athletes. Committed to mentorship and positive development.

Certified

CPR/First Aid certified and CIF Coaching Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Professional & Collaborative

Organized, communicative, and dependable. Approaches the role with integrity, humility, and a team-first mindset.

Position Details

This is a seasonal, part-time position. Compensation ranges from $10,000 - $15,000, based on experience.
