Manager 5

This position is responsible for the operation, supervision, evaluation, and revision of the Surgical Technology program in accordance with institutional requirements and applicable CAAHEP and ARC-STSA accreditation standards. The role includes coordinating all instructional, academic, laboratory, and clinical activities within the program; supervising curriculum development and evaluation; maintaining program accreditation requirements; and providing instruction in assigned Surgical Technology courses.

Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)

• Develops educational programs to achieve the institutions objectives and to meet applicable standards established by CAAHEP and ARC/STSA..
• Analyzes, evaluates, revises, and maintains an educational program consistent with current Surgical Technology practice, trends, policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements.
• Provides administration, organization, supervision, continuous quality improvement, and academic oversight of the Surgical Technology program.
• Prepares departmental goals and budget requests and provides oversight of the program budget..
• Assists with updates and maintenance of clinical affiliation agreements and processes to ensure all students and faculty meet credentialing requirements for each assigned clinical agency.
• Devises and directs maintenance of a record system for clinical experiences, required surgical cases and competencies, student exits and reentries, grades, attendance, progression, and other required student and program information.

Collaborates with the Clinical Coordinator and program faculty to ensure appropriate clinical placement, supervision, evaluation, and progression for all students.

Schedules and hosts Surgical Technology advisory committee meetings at least annually & as needed, or as required by College policy, and uses stakeholder feedback to support program improvement..

Interviews faculty and staff candidates; recommends appointment, assignment, and termination of personnel as appropriate; and shares responsibility for orientation and mentoring of new faculty.

Conducts scheduled faculty meetings and promotes collaboration, calibration, consistency, and continuous improvement in instruction and student evaluation.

Serves as a member of faculty and College committees and participates in professional meetings, community activities, recruitment events, and other institutional initiatives.

Maintains required accreditation documentation and coordinates annual reports, self-studies, site visit preparation, substantive change notifications, and other required submissions to CAAHEP and ARC/STSA.

Monitors, evaluates, and documents program outcomes, including retention, credentialing examination performance, graduate placement, graduate satisfaction, employer satisfaction, and other required outcomes measures.

Uses program outcomes and assessment data to develop, implement, document, and evaluate continuous quality improvement plans.

Maintains communication with clinical affiliates, employers, advisory committee members, and other community stakeholders to support program quality and workforce relevance.

Develops and maintains course materials, syllabi, instructional plans, assessments, classroom and laboratory materials, and improvement plans that align with course and program outcomes.

Utilizes current teaching strategies, technologies, learning management systems, and evidence-informed educational practices to enhance student learning.

Maintains a safe, respectful, organized, and effective classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and departmental learning environment.

Participates in professional development activities to remain current in Surgical Technology practice, accreditation standards, instructional methodology, curriculum development, technology, and program administration.

Supports Department, Division, and College goals and provides requested information, documentation, and data in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Ability to work a schedule, which may include evenings and weekends

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to meet clinical agency credentialing and compliance requirement

Ability to work independently on a wide variety of professional tasks

Exhibit strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills to deal effectively with the various college staff, faculty, students and members of the community

Ability to work with a diverse student population to help them reach their maximum potential

Proficiency in curriculum design, program administration, evaluation, instruction, and academic advising

Requirements:

Associate Degree

Be a graduate of an education program in Surgical Technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.

Hold current national certification in Surgical Technology, such as the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Have a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in Surgical Technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.

Current CPR/BLS certification

Preferences:

Bachelors or masters degree in Surgical Technology, education, health sciences, healthcare administration, or a related field.

Previous experience as a Surgical Technology Program Director, Clinical Coordinator, or lead faculty member.

Experience teaching Surgical Technology in didactic, laboratory, and clinical settings
