Summary
Responsible for the operations of the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts academic advising and student-success program and for assigned college-level academic program administration. In collaboration with the Executive Director for Student Success, directs advising and student support services, oversees staff and projects, develops short- and long-term goals, and advises students. Serves as a college liaison for university admissions, orientation, academic policy, undergraduate and graduate curriculum proposals, and catalog updates.
Job Duties
Oversees daily academic advising and student-support operations for the Office of Student Success and serves as director of the office when the Executive Director for Student Success is unavailable.
Advises a defined caseload of students regarding degree requirements, academic planning, policies, progress, and completion; provides career guidance and coordinates the resolution of complex or escalated student concerns.
Directs the activities of advising staff and student workers, establishes work priorities and service expectations, trains advisors, maintains training resources, evaluates performance, and provides input on personnel matters.
Collaborates with the Executive Director for Student Success to develop and implement policies, procedures, strategic plans, projects, and service improvements supporting student success; participates in budget and resource planning for assigned programs.
Serves as the college liaison for university admissions, orientation, and academic policy, communicating requirements and coordinating implementation with faculty, staff, students, and university offices.
Guides faculty and departmental graduate directors in preparing undergraduate and graduate academic proposals; reviews and facilitates proposals through school and college curriculum committees and subsequent university approval processes.
Reviews, coordinates, and submits college catalog updates for undergraduate and graduate programs, ensuring that program requirements, policies, and curricular information are accurate and consistent with approved actions.
In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Operations, coordinate and manage the annual curricular process, enforce curricular deadlines with college partners, and establish semester-based college curriculum committee meetings.
Maintains regular communication with faculty, departmental curriculum directors, academic units, and the college Academic Affairs office regarding undergraduate and graduate policies, curricula, degree requirements, and implementation needs.
Performs high-level academic administrative functions, including reviewing petitions and exceptions, processing graduation applications, maintaining and auditing student records, and entering course permissions and enrollment-limit overrides.
Implements and monitors student-success and academic-program initiatives, evaluates policies and processes, recommends improvements, represents the office and college to internal and external constituents, and serves on university committees as assigned.
Performs other job-related duties as required.
Job Requirements
Education
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline, or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related four-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program directly related to the work being performed.
Preferred: Graduate-level degree in a relevant or related field.
Experience
Requires a minimum of five years of direct job-related experience.
Preferred: Five years of directly job-related experience working with creative and performing arts students in an academic advising or academic administration capacity.
Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
Education will be considered in lieu of experience.
