The College of Liberal Arts is home to 30 undergraduate majors, 42 minors, and 32 graduate degree programs. With its vibrant and diverse array of educational programs, the College of Liberal Arts plays a tremendous role in the university's academic success, and its mission mirrors both the historical importance of the liberal arts in society and the principles on which Temple University was founded. The mission of the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree is to prepare students to think critically about criminal behavior, the operations of the criminal justice system, and the effectiveness and fairness of society's efforts to prevent and address crime. Through an interdisciplinary and research-informed approach, students explore diverse perspectives on criminal behavior and the social harms associated with it, as well as the ways society responds to these challenges. Students develop an appreciation for the role of social science research in informing evidence-based crime and social policies and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to design and conduct rigorous research that advances understanding of contemporary criminal justice issues.
The Criminal Justice Program Coordinator supports student success, retention, and development by identifying students in need of academic support and outreach and connecting students with resources that support their academic, professional, and personal goals. The coordinator represents the Department of Criminal Justice at internal and external meetings and events, communicates program goals, promotes student responsibility and success, and serves as a liaison between the department and the CLA Advising and Professional Development Center. The coordinator provides program information to prospective freshmen and transfer students and supports CLA's Office of Enrollment Management as needed. Working closely with Criminal Justice faculty and staff, the coordinator communicates and administers program, College, and University requirements and policies, shares resources and opportunities that support students, and collaborates with the Department Chair, Scheduling Coordinator, and Undergraduate Program Chair on curricular planning and course promotion.
Due to the front-facing nature of the Program Coordinator position, on-campus presence is required four days per week (8:30am - 4:30pm). Mondays will be the designated advising day.
