    DEFINITION

    The Town of Danville is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Program Assistant in the Recreation, Arts & Community Services Department. This position is regularly scheduled during the week, including some evenings and weekend shifts. Actual hours assigned may be increased or decreased at any time depending upon the needs of the program or department.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

    The Program Assistant reports directly to the Sports and Aquatics Coordinator or the Recreation Supervisor.

    SPORTS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

    • Coordinate registration for aquatics, youth, and adult sports programs.
    • Train staff members, including coaches, referees, scorekeepers, and gym monitors.
    • Serve as scorekeeper and referee when required.
    • Order and manage inventory of equipment and supplies for program implementation.
    • Deliver excellent customer service, including responding to phone calls and written correspondence.
    • Assist in scheduling and oversee staff as assigned.
    • Assist in developing leagues by assigning officials and scheduling practices and games.
    • Operate within established budget guidelines.
    • Meet deadlines and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
    • Perform duties within OSHA standards.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    AQUATICS ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

    • Manages daily operations of the summer aquatics program under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator.
    • Assist in implementing in-service training and lifeguard classes and program evaluations.
    • Supervises volunteer staff performance.
    • Prepare and maintain part-time staff schedules, including attendance adjustments.
    • Identify staff training needs and collaborate to execute effective training.
    • Maintains staff performance quality in accordance with American Red Cross and Town of Danville standards.
    • Provide excellent customer service by assisting the community with aquatic-related issues.
    • Maintain inventory of pool equipment and supplies, ensure equipment is in good condition, and arrange repairs as needed.
    • Keep accurate attendance and registration records and support site operations by assisting with participant class placement.
    • Perform duties within OSHA standards.

    NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Maintain the storage facility to ensure inventory remains orderly and secure.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    Experience organizing leagues in various sports; knowledge of rules and regulations related to sports leagues; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; possession of a current, valid California driver's license.
