THE ROLE
We are seeking a Profile Specialist to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
To oversee, operate, program, maintain and trouble-shoot metal cutting operations in all phases of production. Responsible for the operation, programming, maintenance, and optimization of laser and profiling equipment. Ensures efficient production through proper machine setup, nesting, and troubleshooting while maintaining quality and safety standards. Partners with engineering on new product implementation and ECNs, oversees preventive maintenance to maximize uptime, and trains operators on equipment and procedures. Supports production as needed, including hands-on operation, reporting performance metrics, and maintaining 5S organization.

HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Be versed in all aspects of all of the metal cutting machines used in this facility. This includes understanding all functions of each machine, flow of material to and from the machines, knowing capabilities and limitations of each machine. May attend classes and course study to help understand laser cutting principles, or specific technical aspects of each machine.
- Review new product designs to determine programming and operational issues. Set machine parameters to safely execute the correct operation, maximizing quality and throughput. Run test cycles to determine accuracy and quality. Work closely with design engineering to ensure new product designs are fabricated as intended. Understand ECN process and implement new ECN’s that are applicable.
- Oversee profiling operations to ensure they are performed in the manner specified in the Standard of Work or verbal instructions. Create and/or modify JI’s and Work Instructions to provide accurate documentation of safe operation of machines.
- Oversee PM programs of each machine to maximize machine up-time. Create/modify programs as needed. Take an active part in performing/auditing PM duties.
- Train all Laser Operators using specified JI methods. Document all training completed. Periodically evaluate training effectiveness with each operator.
- Responsible for nesting functions of all production and engineering programs that are run on the profiling equipment.
- Responsible for inventory of consumables ensuring an adequate supply is on-hand at all times. Train operators how to replace and adjust consumables as needed.
- Be available to operators when jams and/or errors can’t be cleared. Work with Maintenance technicians as needed. Use contract resources and rapid response plans when needed to troubleshoot and recover quickly from any work stoppage related to laser equipment.
- Perform hands-on production support by operating laser and press brakes equipment as needed.
- Provide production reports to area Supervisors, including down-time analysis, PM logs, efficiency and utilization charts.
- Work periodically on overtime, alternate shifts and/or weekends to ensure full utilization of the laser equipment.
- Communicate with other shifts and departments to aid in maintaining part quality to acceptable standards.
- Use hoists or carts to move products of 50 pounds or more.
- Observe all safety rules and procedures; report unsafe conditions to supervision.
- Establish consistent 5S organization for each profile table cell.
- Follow Douglas Dynamics rules regarding work and conduct.
- Operate fork truck to assist in material handling.
- Able to travel for training or to share knowledge with other locations
- Run profiling machine in a production capacity when required.
