Position Summary

Posting Note: We are seeking a Professional Governance Program Manager to lead and strengthen shared decision-making across Phoenix Children's nursing organization. This role will build and standardize governance structures, support council and board leadership, and ensure alignment with strategic priorities. This is an exciting opportunity to empower frontline clinicians, enhance engagement, and advance a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional excellence.

The Professional Governance Program Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and sustainment of the professional governance structure across the organization. This role ensures that shared governance functions as a meaningful, outcome-driven decision-making framework aligned with Magnet standards and organizational priorities. The Professional Governance Program Manager provides enterprise oversight of council infrastructure, charters, bylaws, elections, leader development, and performance measurement.

Position Duties

  • Professional Governance Strategy & Infrastructure

  • Designs, implements, and sustains a system-wide professional governance framework aligned with Magnet standards and organizational goals.

  • Establishes and maintains governance infrastructure, including: council structure and tiers, charters and bylaws, role descriptions and expectations, and election and succession processes.

  • Ensures governance remains nurse-led, evidence-informed, and outcome-focused.

  • Partners with Magnet Program Manager to ensure governance structure supports Magnet documentation and sustainment.

  • Council Performance, Effectiveness & Accountability

  • Develops and monitors governance performance metrics, including participation, engagement, outcomes, and impact.

  • Ensures councils: set annual goals aligned with organizational priorities, track progress and outcomes, and demonstrate decision-making authority and accountability.

  • Provides consultation and coaching to council chairs, co-chairs, and executive sponsors.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve governance effectiveness and sustainability.

  • Leader Development & Capability Building

  • Develops and delivers education for: council chairs and co-chairs, council members, and executive sponsors.

  • Supports leadership development in: shared decision-making, change management, evidence-based decision-making, and meeting facilitation and governance best practices.

  • Partners with Education and Professional Development teams to integrate governance competencies into leadership pathways.

  • Integration with Outcomes, EBP & Magnet Strategy

  • Partners with the Nursing Outcomes Manager, Magnet Program Manager, and Nurse leaders.

  • Ensures governance councils: use nursing-sensitive outcomes data to guide decisions, support EBP and research initiatives, generate exemplars demonstrating nursing impact.

  • Supports translation of council work into Magnet sources of evidence.

  • Communication, Engagement & Recognition

  • Collaborates with Communication Specialist - Professional Practice to promote governance visibility and engagement.

  • Supports enterprise governance events (e.g., governance summits, chair forums).

  • Develops tools and resources to support council operations.

  • Promotes recognition of governance contributions and achievements.

  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.
