Job Title: Grit Blasting Technician

Job Description

The Grit Blasting Technician prepares and processes components for thermal spray, brazing, and coating operations using a variety of hand and power tools, blasting equipment, and furnaces. This role combines precision manual work with operation of industrial machinery to support high-quality manufacturing and reconditioning of parts in a clean, organized production environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect serial numbers and part condition to verify that parts are acceptable before processing.
• Interpret findings from inspection documentation and take appropriate action according to established procedures.
• Track and manage tooling and consumable inventories to ensure availability and proper usage.
• Perform liquid and tape masking on components using various tools and equipment according to work instructions and drawings to maintain coating allowances.
• Carry out manual and robotic pre-process grit blasting for thermal spray on components according to specifications and accurately interpret results.
• Use precision measuring equipment to check work and record measurements in an electronic database.
• Conduct in-process inspection of your own work and the work of others before parts move to the next operation.
• Operate controls on atmospheric and vacuum furnaces under direct supervision, including loading and unloading your own work.
• Apply knowledge of loading configurations and AMS2750 requirements for furnaces and use job aids correctly.
• Assist operators in setting up equipment and maintaining tooling for production processes.
• Operate small cranes and forklifts to safely move equipment, parts, and materials as needed.
• Perform data entry and confirmation of required quality documentation in designated systems.
• Report and monitor abnormal production time for each production step to support continuous improvement.
• Independently carry out assigned technician work and correct non-conforming hardware during the reconditioning process where applicable.
• Perform basic tasks in thermal spray booth operations under direct supervision.
• Train entry-level technicians in coating preparation, brazing, and heat treatment processes.
• Set up and install brazing equipment according to process requirements and safety standards.
• Execute brazing requirements on gas turbine components according to technical specifications for joining and putty braze.
• Grind and blast components for braze preparation in line with specifications and quality standards.
• Advise on and/or participate in the design and fabrication of brazing tools and fixtures as required.
• Use power tools such as die grinders, right angle grinders, and belt sanders for grinding, polishing, and finishing operations.
• Apply good knowledge of abrasive materials including wheels, belts, and discs to achieve desired surface finishes.
• Perform sandblasting and blasting operations to prepare surfaces for coating or further processing.
• Support painting and coating activities, including paint preparation and spray booth operations, when needed.
• Work with hand and power tools for drilling, paint prep, powder coating, and related machine operating tasks.
• Rotate between different departments to develop a broad range of skills across manufacturing processes.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2+ years of manufacturing experience with specific skills in at least one of the following disciplines: grinding, blending coatings, coatings application, coatings removal (strip line), blasting, heat treat, machining, welding, or a similar skillset.
• 2+ years of experience interpreting technical drawings or work instructions.
• 2+ years of experience in a production or maintenance environment.
• Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and workflow.
• Basic knowledge of MS Office programs for documentation and communication.
• Ability to work with SAP, timekeeping applications, and folder structures for data entry and tracking.
• Experience using power tools such as die grinders, right angle grinders, and belt sanders.
• Experience with grinding, polishing, and finishing techniques on metal or similar materials.
• Good working knowledge of abrasive materials, including wheels, belts, and discs.
• Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand and power tools.
• Ability to operate small cranes and forklifts or willingness to train to operate material handling equipment.
• Capability to perform precision measurements and record data accurately.
• Basic understanding of heat treating processes and furnace operations under supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• At least 6 months of sandblasting experience is a plus.
• Experience with painting and coating processes, including spray gun and spray paint operation, is helpful.
• Experience in manufacturing, assembly, auto body repairs, fiberglass work, or woodworking is beneficial.
• Experience with painting in a spray booth environment is advantageous.
• Exposure to coating preparation, powder coating, and paint prep processes.
• Experience with drilling, blasting, and general machine operating tasks.
• Familiarity with heat treating and coating workflows in a production setting.
• Ability to train and mentor entry-level technicians in coating prep, braze, and heat treatment.
• Experience with brazing operations on gas turbine or similar components is an asset.
• Knowledge of AMS2750 requirements and furnace loading configurations is a plus.
• Comfort working in a structured, process-driven environment with quality documentation requirements.

Work Environment

This role is based in an AC-controlled production warehouse and manufacturing facility that is very organized and clean. You will work in a warehouse environment with rotating opportunities between different departments to gain diverse skills across grit blasting, coating prep, brazing, and related processes. Available shifts include 1st shift (approximately 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.), supporting a structured production schedule. The facility uses industrial equipment such as atmospheric and vacuum furnaces, thermal spray booths, blasting equipment, small cranes, forklifts, and a variety of hand and power tools including grinders, sanders, and spray guns. Safety is a priority, and you must wear safety shoes rated by ASTM F 2413-05 or ANSI Z41-1999 with I/C (impact/compression), EH (electrical hazard), and SD (static dissipative) protection, along with steel toe requirements. The dress code emphasizes appropriate protective footwear and adherence to all safety and personal protective equipment guidelines in a modern, well-maintained production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jupiter, FL.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
