Production Supervisor

General Scope of Position

Sefar’s Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the employees and daily activities within their assigned production area. The position provides direction, coaching, and accountability to ensure the team meets established targets for safety, quality, productivity, delivery performance, and operational expense.

The Supervisor’s primary focus is to remain actively engaged on the production floor, maintaining regular communication with employees, monitoring performance, addressing issues, and coordinating the resources necessary for the team to succeed. Computer and administrative work are required to support performance tracking, documentation, and reporting.

Position Requirements

Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment is required. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required. The individual must be comfortable providing regular performance feedback, setting clear expectations, and holding employees accountable for safe and effective work practices.

The individual must be self-motivated, organized, and analytical. Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and techniques is preferred. Experience working with an ERP system is also preferred.

Position Responsibilities:

Sefar employees are responsible for the quality of their work through understanding and fulfilling our customers’ requirements.

1. Ensure the assigned production area meets or exceeds departmental targets for productivity, delivery performance, operational expense, quality, and safety, as established by the Operations Manager.
2. Maintain a strong working knowledge of the processes performed within the assigned area, including what is done, why it is done, and how it should be performed. Identify operational concerns and coordinate with the Operations Manager, Engineering, Quality, and other applicable departments to resolve them.
3. Coordinate the people, equipment, supplies, workspace, and documentation required to support safe and effective production. Provide regular performance updates to the Operations Manager in the following areas:
4. • People – Provide employees with clear direction, regular feedback, coaching, and accountability. Ensure employees are properly trained and qualified for the equipment and processes they perform. Support the continued development and improvement of employee skills and performance.
   • Equipment – Promote the effective use of existing equipment, identify equipment-related concerns, and coordinate with Engineering and Maintenance to support preventive maintenance and equipment improvement activities.
   • Supplies – Ensure the appropriate production supplies are identified, available, and maintained at suitable stocking levels to support operational requirements.
   • Physical Space – Maintain an organized and efficient work area containing only the materials, equipment, and supplies required for production. Implement and sustain established 5S standards.
   • Effective Documentation – Ensure employees have access to accurate and usable production documentation, including routers, bills of material, machine work instructions, and training documents. Coordinate corrections and updates with the departments responsible for document ownership and approval.
5. Review and respond to quality issues within the assigned production area in a timely manner. Support containment, investigation, root-cause identification, and corrective action in coordination with Quality, Engineering, Product Development, and other applicable departments. Any proposed change that may affect a product’s fit, form, function, customer requirements, or no-change agreement must be reviewed and approved by Quality and Product Development before implementation.
6. Identify, implement, and track department improvements, measuring performance. The same change approvals must be considered for improvement projects as for quality issues.
7. Provide a monthly operational summary to the Operations Manager and other applicable stakeholders. Reporting should include KPI performance, significant quality or safety concerns, employee and resource needs, improvement activities, project status, and upcoming priorities.

Safety

1.     Lead the assigned production area toward meeting or exceeding established safety goals.

2.     Ensure employees follow established safety procedures and promptly report equipment, process, or workplace concerns that may affect employee safety or regulatory compliance.

3.     Identify, report, and coordinate the correction of hazardous conditions and unsafe work practices that may result in employee injury or property damage.

4.     Ensure required safety inspections are completed and documented, and follow through on identified corrective actions.
