Position Summary
A well-established manufacturer of custom-engineered materials is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead weekend-night operations within its extrusion and liquid coating department in Richmond, IN.
This is a hands-on floor leadership position responsible for coordinating production across extrusion coating, liquid coating, and converting operations. The Production Supervisor will lead approximately 15 employees and play a critical role in strengthening accountability, improving uptime, reducing scrap, and supporting the ramp-up of new production equipment.
The ideal candidate is a visible and decisive leader who is comfortable setting expectations, addressing performance issues, making real-time operating decisions, and escalating problems before they impact an entire shift. This role is best suited for someone who wants to be actively involved on the manufacturing floor rather than managing primarily from an office.
What You'll Do
• Lead, coach, schedule, and hold approximately 15 employees accountable for performance, attendance, safety, quality, and conduct
• Assign daily work, communicate production priorities, and coordinate the shift against operating requirements
• Analyze work orders, production schedules, labor requirements, materials, and supplies to support efficient execution
• Interpret product specifications, job orders, work instructions, and production requirements for employees
• Monitor production performance and ensure operators follow established standards and procedures
• Inspect and verify product conformance to specifications and direct process or equipment adjustments when needed
• Identify production or equipment problems, determine when troubleshooting should continue, and escalate or stop production when appropriate
• Maintain time, production, staffing, and operational records
• Partner with maintenance, quality, operations, and other departments to meet customer deadlines and production objectives
• Help improve uptime, scrap, quality, cost, equipment performance, production methods, and cycle time
• Resolve day-to-day work problems and support employees in addressing production challenges
• Build a shift culture where employees identify issues early, communicate concerns, and take accountability for results
• Take increasing ownership of shift scheduling and staffing assignments as training progresses
What You Bring
• Demonstrated people-leadership experience, including setting expectations, holding employees accountable, and addressing performance issues directly
• Strong judgment in a manufacturing or shift-based environment
• Ability to determine when to troubleshoot a production problem, when to escalate it, and when equipment should be stopped to control risk
• Strong organization, prioritization, problem-solving, and follow-through skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Comfort working hands-on in a complex production environment
• Ability to work effectively with operators, maintenance, quality, and management teams
• Working proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Ability and willingness to consistently work the full weekend-night schedule
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
• Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience in custom manufacturing or another operation involving production schedules, specifications, and multiple process variables
• Plastics, extrusion, coating, converting, flexible packaging, or related process-manufacturing experience
• Experience working with quality specifications, inspections, work instructions, and nonconforming-product processes
• Career progression from operator or floor-level work into lead or supervisory responsibility
• Associate degree in Manufacturing or a related field
• Experience improving production methods, equipment performance, quality, cost, or cycle times
• Experience managing or supporting material flow, staffing assignments, and production scheduling
• Strong warehouse or distribution leaders may also be considered if they demonstrate strong people leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to transition into a manufacturing environment
Why This Opportunity
• High-visibility leadership role with direct influence over night-shift culture and accountability
• Opportunity to improve uptime, scrap, quality, and overall operating discipline
• Lead a team through the ramp-up of new production equipment and processes
• Meaningful autonomy to make decisions and strengthen shift performance
• Opportunity for a strong floor leader to step into a complex manufacturing environment even without a perfect plastics background
• Work closely with experienced manufacturing leadership while taking ownership of day-to-day shift execution
• Competitive base compensation with flexibility for a highly qualified candidate
• Opportunity to make a measurable impact on production performance, employee accountability, and continuous improvement
