    Production Shift Supervisor

    Role Summary

    The Production Shift Supervisor provides field supervision and coordination for the assigned shift. This role ensures the safe, compliant, and consistent production of cement, pozzolan, clinker, raw mix, and solid fuels, while enforcing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company policy across all plant operations.

    Reports to: Production Coordinator

    Purpose

    This position exists to ensure safe, compliant, and consistent execution of shift-level production operations. The Production Shift Supervisor coordinates plant activities during the assigned shift, provides leadership to Production personnel, and supports the Production Coordinator, plant leadership, Maintenance, Quality, Logistics, Traffic, and other departments by investigating and resolving production issues, responding to abnormal conditions, enforcing safety and environmental requirements, protecting equipment, and maintaining operational continuity.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Investigate and identify production issues, make operational decisions, and take corrective actions.
    • Provide field supervision and coordination for the shift, ensuring proper risk assessment, LOTOTO, and all other safety measures are followed.
    • Ensure consistent production of all cement, pozzolan, clinker, raw mix, and solid fuels within established quality guidelines, ensuring appropriate actions and communications for any deviations.
    • Ensure plant equipment is operated in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Communicate significant issues to the appropriate department(s) and the Production Coordinator as necessary when unexpected events occur.
    • Conduct process line inspections; complete regulatory forms and correct any defects.
    • Enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Company Policies.
    • Maintain accurate shift logs for all plant activities.
    • Conduct an effective shift turnover with the incoming supervisor and communicate equipment status, active work, LOTOTO conditions, environmental concerns, quality issues, production constraints, maintenance activities, contractor work, and other significant plant conditions.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge

    • Pyroprocessing, milling, grinding, and crushing processes.
    • MSHA and SOP requirements, including LOTOTO, Cardox, confined space, and hot work procedures.
    • Federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (MSHA, ADEQ, EPA).
    • Production quality guidelines and shift log/reporting practices.

    Problem Solving

    • Identifies and resolves production issues that occur daily and require immediate, high-consequence operational decisions.
    • Analyzes process line inspection findings and equipment conditions to determine appropriate corrective actions.
    • Exercises independent judgment during unexpected events, determining when to escalate to the Production Coordinator or other departments.
    • Balances production output, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance when making shift-level decisions.

    • Engages occasionally with external contractors and vendors (e.g., AIMS, Zemer) as needed.
    • Influences shift-level safety, quality, and production outcomes through direct oversight and enforcement of SOPs.

    Direct: The position directly impacts daily production output, product quality, plant safety, and regulatory compliance by supervising shift operations and enforcing SOPs and safety protocols.

    Indirect: The role indirectly supports overall plant performance, employee safety culture, and operational continuity by ensuring consistent shift coverage and communication across departments.

    Experience and Education

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • 5 years of industrial manufacturing experience.
    • 7 years of cement or similar plant experience.
    • 2 years of production labor, mechanic, or electrical experience, plus 2 years as a Control Room Operator (CRO).
    • Previous positions may include Production Laborer or equivalent, CRO, or Supervisor.
    • MSHA Part 46 new miner training and annual refresher; CPR and First Aid certification (8 hours annually); Leadership and Management training (8 weeks).
    • Primarily plant-based role (approximately 70% of time) with exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, and vibrations; remaining time (approximately 30%) in an office environment.

    • Strong safety mindset with consistent enforcement of LOTOTO, MSHA, and SOP requirements and intervenes when unsafe conditions or behaviors are identified.
    • Clear, proactive communicator who escalates issues promptly to the Production Coordinator and other departments.
