Overview The primary job responsibilities of the Overhaul Technician (Level I) position include at a minimum disassembly and parts cleaning of train braking components, HVAC units, door operators and couplers.
Responsibilities
• Move material to and from workstation by hand, cart, pallet jack, hoist and crane as required. May be required to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds).
• Disassemble (tear-down), clean, according to work instructions, engineering drawings and/or test codes.
• Responsible for processing paperwork pertaining to the disassembly and cleaning.
• Use of fixtures, press, vice, grinders, wire wheel, pneumatic/hand tools, etc.).
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management
• Adhere to all safety rules, regulations, practices, procedures, and established company policies.
• Maintain good housekeeping.
EXPERIENCE
• Possesses strong mechanical skills
• Hands on work assembly and disassembly of mechanical parts.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated experience with mechanical and pneumatic components.
• Ability to work in conformance with engineering specifications, quality procedures, and lean manufacturing principles
• Ability to understand work procedures, determine tooling and operation sequence, etc. in order to establish the most efficient manner of utilizing materials and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals. Able to communicate effectively with coworkers.
• Able to follow instructions, possess basic comprehension and reading skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a group as a team player.
• Has the ability to learn quickly and apply new skills immediately.
• Positive attitude and high degree of self-discipline and self-motivation are required.
• Over 2 years of manufacturing assembly experience or related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Ability to work safely on all tasks related to the job.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
• Requires repeated movements and tasks daily.
• The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, crouch.
• Job requires use of vibrating/impact pneumatic hand tools.
• The employee may be required to lift or move up to 50 lbs.
• Regular full-time. Must be able to work overtime and Saturdays when required.
Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job.
• While performing duties on this job, the employee will be working with dirty, grimy, and rusted parts since most of the customer product received for overhaul mounts under the train.
• The noise level in certain areas of the shop may be usually loud at some times.
• Employee will work near moving mechanical and pneumatic parts/equipment.
• The work will be performed indoors. However, employee is exposed to climate conditions (due to weather) as there is no HVAC within shop area.
• PPE required throughout shop area, at a minimum safety steel toe shoe and eye protection is required within shop area. Within certain areas hearing protection, hand protection, arm protection, respirator, and face shield may be required.
