Growing proteins processing company in the Souderton, PA area is looking of a Production Manager with deep expertise in USDA-inspected slaughter operations to lead their production operations. This isn't just about hitting "head count" numbers; we are looking for a culture-builder. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between high-volume protein processing and a people-first leadership style, focusing heavily on safety protocols and hands-on staff development. You will be responsible for transforming safety from a requirement into a core value while ensuring operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Operational Excellence: Manage all aspects of the harvest/slaughter floor to ensure production targets are met while maintaining strict USDA and FSIS compliance. Optimize line speed and yield without compromising animal welfare standards or carcass quality.
Safety Leadership: Champion a safety-first mindset and conduct regular "toolbox talks" to identify hazards specific to slaughter environments, such as knife handling and heavy machinery. Partner with HR to reduce OSHA recordable incidents.
Training & Mentorship: Personally train and mentor supervisors and floor staff on proper knife skills and food safety. Implement a robust onboarding process and identify high-potential employees for internal promotion.
Quality & Compliance: Ensure 100% adherence to HACCP, SSOP, and HARPC plans. Maintain a professional, transparent relationship with USDA inspectors and oversee Humane Handling protocols to exceed industry standards.
Resource Management: Monitor and manage labor costs, throughput, and operational waste to ensure the facility remains efficient and profitable.
Industry Experience: At least 5+ years in protein processing, with a minimum of 3 years specifically in Slaughter/Harvest management.
Regulatory Expertise: Deep familiarity with USDA/FSIS regulations and the Humane Slaughter Act.
Leadership Style: A proven track record of improving employee retention and fostering a positive, collaborative workplace culture.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Food Science, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Communication Skills: Ability to explain complex tasks simply and effectively; bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in yield analysis, labor scheduling, and the use of Microsoft Office or ERP systems.
