POSITION/TITLE:  Production Equipment Operator - THERMOFORMING
WORK LOCATION: Stone Mountain, GA
POSITION REPORTS TO: Specialty Production Supervisor
WORK TYPE:  ON SITE
 
JOB SUMMARY:
Production Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the extruders and/or thermoformers.  Ensures that product quality and efficiencies are maintained and that operating scrap is kept to an absolute minimum.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Performs duties needed to operate production line as assigned, producing a variety of products varying in material combination, thickness and width.
  2. Makes mechanical adjustments such as changing temperature, air setting, water pressure and temperature, speeds, and hydraulic pressure.  Replaces simple worn out or broken mechanical components and records such adjustments.
  3. Replaces and documents simple worn out or broken mechanical components.
  4. Performs timely operator mechanical checks on all assigned equipment to ensure proper adjustments are maintained.
  5. Maintains established cycle settings on assigned machines to ensure production quality with minimal scrap.
  6. Periodically cleans dye lip and chrome rollers (extruder operator).
  7. Operates equipment including loading and unloading rolls and placing completed rolls in storage racks using lift truck.
  8. Cleans lines and detects jams or malfunctions of machines.  Makes adjustments as necessary.
  9. Comply with all safety rules, policies, procedures and practices to include performing LOTO of production equipment when required.
  10. Performs equipment evaluations at the start of the shift to ensure production flow is consistent throughout.
  11. Perform “line checks” and all assigned quality and measurement tests of the product being made to inspect for defects and malfunctions every hour.  Must document findings on the inspector checklist.
  12. Responsible for informing the leadership team immediately of any failure to meet established quality standards to ensure that corrective action is taken.
  13. Perform all assigned quality tests to measure the quality of the product. This requires frequent fingering and handling of the product to inspect for defects. 
  14. Diagnose and determine cause for machine malfunctions along with making operator troubleshoot to assigned machines. 
  15. Maintain a safe and clean work area at all times. 
Performs other duties as assigned by the Production Lead, Team Supervisor, Department Manager or WinCup leadership as needed.
 
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
REQUIRED EXPEREINCE/SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) required.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English in order to carry out instructions and communicate with others as needed. 
  • Previous machine operator experience preferred, but not necessary.
  • Must be able to use basic math skills, create simple drawings, and use some measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, weight scales, measuring tapes and multimeters to check fuses.
  • Must have good mechanical ability and manual dexterity.

  • Team Member will frequently be required to actively listen and exchange information.
  • Team Member will be required to observe and assess information in a fast paced environment.
  • Requires frequent use of a production, manufacturing equipment and/or machinery.
  • Will be required to frequently move/transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds which may require frequent bending, twisting and reaching motions.
  • Team Member may be required to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
  • Team Member may be required to stand for long periods up to 8, 10 or 12 hours shifts.
  • Team Member may be required to talk, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crawl or crouch.

WORK ENVIRONMENT (Manufacturing Plant):

The characteristics listed below are representative of the work environment typically encountered by an individual while performing the essential duties of a position in our manufacturing plants.  Note that office positions located within our Manufacturing Plants often require some plant floor presence throughout the day so these work environment details may not always apply, they should still be noted.  
  • Work space is one that contains moving mechanical parts.
  • Requires work in an indoor manufacturing environment that may be exposed to extreme heat that is not air conditioned.
  • Work environment contains loud noises and odors that may last for long periods of time or on a continual basis as well as occasional airborne particles.
  • Must wear PPE while working, which includes hairnet, hearing protection and safety glasses with side guards at all times.
  • Ability to work an 8+, 10+ or 12+ hour shifts as designated.
  • Able to work weekdays, weekends and overtime as designated.
