JOB TITLE: Production Assistant

REPORTS TO: Chief Communications Officer with supervision from Senior Video Specialist

LOCATION: Worcester Public Schools (WPS), Worcester, MA

OVERVIEW:

The Production Assistant will produce video content for the WPS Communications Department's digital platforms and the Worcester Educational Access Television (WEA-TV) cable channel, as well as record and broadcast live events and public meetings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Produces videos for digital platforms or broadcasts of events and live public Worcester School Committee meetings through pre-production and set-up, filming/camera operation, and editing/post-event operation, under the guidance of the Senior Video Specialist and/or Chief Communications Officer.
  • Assists with WEA-TV production and operational tasks such as maintaining archival databases, graphic design, equipment upkeep and other job-related duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Experience producing video content for a professional organization
  • Experience video editing and using editing software, such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe
  • Experience and understanding of file formats for cable television vs. internet platforms
  • Understanding of lighting techniques
  • Experience using Cannon and JVC camcorders
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, paying close attention to grammar

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of experience in the field of video production
  • Bachelor of Arts Degree in visual arts, communications, multimedia production, marketing, broadcast journalism, or related field
  • Experience with preproduction planning, script writing, interviewing
  • Experience with pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) cameras for filming and/or live broadcasts of productions, graduation ceremonies, or public meetings
  • Experience and skills with graphic design and visual branding production and best practices for video and television
  • A self-starter who is motivated and has a passion for video production work
  • Knowledge of urban school districts
  • Owns a reliable vehicle and has a valid U.S. driver's license
  • Ability to speak Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Arabic or Vietnamese

PAY RATE: $31 per hour

JOB TYPE: 185 days, non-represented. (Please note that this is a school-year position. This position works only on days when school staff are reporting. The PA does not work on non-school days, including school vacation periods and recognized holidays.)
