OVERVIEW

Wolters Kluwer is seeking a Marketing Specialist to support and lead marketing efforts for a portfolio of scholarly medical and nursing research journals. The role involves developing and executing strategic marketing programs that drive author engagement, readership, subscription renewals, and revenue, while collaborating with global teams and managing multiple projects. Strong communication skills are essential, and experience with medical or scientific publishing is preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Marketing Planning and Execution

  • Develop and implement marketing plans for a diverse portfolio of scholarly journals, each with unique audiences and goals. This includes defining marketing strategies that drive key outcomes - increased manuscript submissions, higher article usage, and subscription or Open Access revenue growth - in line with both Wolters Kluwer's objectives and society partner expectations.
  • You will manage the annual planning cycle (setting objectives, crafting campaigns, and forecasting results) and adjust tactics based on performance data throughout the year.

Integrated Campaign Management

  • Plan and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns and events that raise journal visibility and engagement.
  • Coordinate promotional activities across email marketing, content marketing, social media, search/SEO, and conferences to reach target authors, researchers, and readers globally. Campaign responsibilities include crafting messaging (e.g. author-focused value propositions), overseeing creative development (with in-house designers or freelancers), and scheduling communications (such as specialty e-newsletters, "hot topic" alerts, and social media posts).

Journal Subscription Renewal Program Management

  • Lead the planning and execution of Wolters Kluwer's global journal subscription renewal program, driving customer retention, renewal revenue, and subscriber lifetime value across individual customer segments.
  • Develop and optimize multi-channel renewal campaigns, including print, email, digital, and telemarketing initiatives, leveraging customer insights and performance data to improve conversion rates and reduce attrition.
  • Monitor campaign performance, renewal trends, and retention metrics, providing actionable recommendations to maximize revenue growth and customer engagement.
  • Manage renewal budgets, agency/vendor relationships, and annual marketing plans to support subscription retention, and business objectives.

Budgeting and Operations

  • Manage promotional budgets and campaign calendars for your journals, ensuring efficient use of marketing resources to achieve maximum ROI.
  • Forecast and track marketing expenditures, adjusting allocations based on campaign performance, and ensure all activities stay within budget.
  • Ensure marketing materials and activities adhere to either Wolters Kluwer or society brand guidelines and quality standards, exhibiting strong attention to detail and timely delivery.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to execute marketing initiatives.
  • Work with Publishing teams to align on editorial/product strategy, with the Central Marketing to produce effective collateral and digital assets, and with Production and Operations teams to coordinate content promotions.

Data Analysis and Performance Optimization

  • Track and analyze key marketing metrics, such as email open/click-through rates, circulation trends, usage statistics, manuscript submission volume, and subscription sales, to gauge campaign performance and overall journal health.
  • Prepare regular reports for stakeholders that highlight marketing ROI and impact (e.g. how campaigns contributed to increases in usage or submissions).

This role requires hands-on use of various marketing and analytics tools to execute campaigns and report results. The Marketing Specialist should be comfortable with:

  • GA4 (Google Analytics 4) - for web analytics, tracking traffic and user engagement metrics.
  • Smartsheet - for project tracking, task management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure timely execution of marketing initiatives.
  • Adobe DC and Canva - for proofing and designing marketing collateral and visual assets.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - for documentation, reporting, and presentation needs.
  • Domo - business intelligence platform for real-time email and social media performance reporting.
  • Jasper - AI copywriting tool for creating and refining marketing content.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of B2C marketing experience
