Job Description:
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of automotive thermal-management hardware. This position is heavily focused on hands-on mechanical design, CAD, vehicle packaging, GD&T, manufacturability, and production release.
You will take thermal and performance requirements and turn them into real, manufacturable components used within vehicle cooling, refrigeration, HVAC, and EV thermal-management systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an automotive mechanical engineer with experience designing components such as coolant lines, manifolds, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, HVAC hardware, brackets, housings, and related thermal components.
What You’ll Do
  • Design thermal-system components and assemblies using CATIA, NX, or 3DEXPERIENCE, from initial concept through production release.
  • Develop hardware for coolant, refrigeration, HVAC, and climate-control systems.
  • Package and route thermal components throughout the vehicle while resolving space, clearance, mounting, and interface challenges.
  • Work around adjacent vehicle systems including the battery, drive unit, power electronics, chassis, body, and instrument panel.
  • Translate thermal, hydraulic, flow, and pressure requirements into practical mechanical designs.
  • Design flow paths, mounting features, sealing interfaces, connections, and heat-exchanger arrangements.
  • Apply GD&T and perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit, sealing, alignment, and functionality.
  • Design components with manufacturing and high-volume assembly in mind using DFM/DFA principles.
  • Support manufacturing processes such as injection molding, brazing, stamping, extrusion, and machining.
  • Partner with suppliers on tooling, manufacturability, cost, quality, and production feasibility.
  • Support structural, thermal, flow, and durability analysis in collaboration with CAE/CFD engineering teams.
  • Participate in DFMEA activities to identify and address potential design failure modes.
  • Create and release detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, assemblies, and bills of materials.
  • Manage engineering changes and support designs through validation, production readiness, and launch.
  • Collaborate with systems, controls, testing, manufacturing, supplier, and validation teams throughout product development.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience designing automotive mechanical components or systems.
  • Hands-on proficiency with at least one of the following:
    • CATIA
    • NX
    • 3DEXPERIENCE
  • Experience creating and modifying detailed 3D part and assembly models.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • Experience designing components for manufacturing processes such as molding, stamping, brazing, extrusion, or machining.
  • Understanding of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, flow, and pressure-system fundamentals.
  • Ability to work onsite 4 days per week beginning on Day 1.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Direct experience designing automotive thermal-management hardware.
  • Experience with:
    • Coolant loops and cooling systems
    • HVAC systems
    • Refrigeration or heat-pump systems
    • Heat exchangers
    • Pumps, valves, and manifolds
    • Coolant hoses, tubes, and fluid-routing components
    • Battery cooling systems
    • Power electronics or drive-unit cooling
  • Experience with electric vehicle thermal-management systems.
  • Experience designing actuator- or valve-driven mechanical hardware.
  • Production Design & Release (D&R) experience.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers on tooling and production readiness.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA and DVP&R.
  • Experience managing production part releases and engineering changes.
What Makes Someone a Strong Fit?
The ideal candidate is a hands-on automotive mechanical designer, not solely a thermal analyst. You should be comfortable taking performance requirements and figuring out:
  • What the component should physically look like
  • How it will fit into the vehicle
  • How it connects and seals
  • How it will be manufactured
  • How tolerances will affect production
  • How it interfaces with surrounding vehicle components
  • How the design will successfully move from CAD into production
Candidates with a combination of automotive component design + CAD + thermal/cooling hardware + GD&T + production release experience will be especially strong fits.
Why This Opportunity?
This role offers the opportunity to work on next-generation vehicle thermal-management hardware, including systems responsible for maintaining the correct operating temperatures for EV batteries, power electronics, drive units, and the passenger cabin. You’ll have ownership beyond conceptual engineering, taking hardware from initial CAD design and vehicle packaging all the way through manufacturing, validation, and production launch.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid position requiring four days per week onsite. Candidates must be available to work onsite beginning on their first day. In-person interviews may be required.
Candidates relocating for the opportunity should be prepared to relocate at their own expense. Remote-only candidates cannot be considered.
Benefits: 80 hours paid time off, and medical insurance contributions, dental vision and our 401k retirement savings plan.
