Product Engineer for a
right to hire assignment with one of our premier financial services clients in
Tampa, FL.
Responsibilities:
- The Product Engineer is a hands-on builder and technical driver within an autonomous pod. You are not a coordinator who manages from a distance—you are in the work, directing AI coding agents, writing and reviewing code, validating architectures, and shipping high-impact software alongside your team.
- You lead by technical example: spending the vast majority of your time doing—building, designing, validating, iterating—while establishing modern engineering benchmarks, accelerating delivery velocity, and shaping product direction from the code out.
- You are the person who sets the technical standard for how the team builds and what the product delivers.
- Build, Prototype & Ship End-to-End
- Act as a primary hands-on builder in an autonomous pod, taking features from whiteboard design through full-stack implementation to production deployment.
- Leverage modern AI-assisted development workflows (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to rapidly prototype, iterate on user interfaces, and build high-performance backend services.
- Deliver resilient, clean, and maintainable code across the entire stack—spanning responsive React frontends, Python microservices, and cloud-native backends.
- Drive Hypothesis-Driven Product Engineering
- Partner closely with product managers and domain experts to deconstruct complex user journeys and identify the highest-leverage technical solutions.
- Design quick, low-cost technical experiments and interactive prototypes that generate high-signal user feedback before committing to full-scale architecture.
- Challenge assumptions at every stage—focusing relentlessly on solving the right problem and measuring real product outcomes rather than raw engineering activity.
- Architect Scalable, Resilient Cloud Systems
- Design robust, modular system architectures and clean API contracts that scale cleanly across enterprise workloads.
- Make deliberate build-vs-configure-vs-orchestrate decisions, leveraging modern serverless primitives (AWS Lambda, S3, CloudFront), PostgreSQL, document/data stores (PostgreSQL / RDS PostgreSQL), and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
- Establish lightweight architectural patterns, reusable UI components, and shared service utilities that enable the pod to move with high velocity without accumulating unsustainable technical debt.
- Provide Technical Thought Leadership & Rigorous Validation
- Serve as the technical benchmark and final line of validation for complex codebases and system architectures—whether authored by engineers or generated by AI tools.
- Maintain deep technical fluency to spot correctness bugs, security vulnerabilities, edge cases, and performance bottlenecks in AI-generated output.
- Define and champion automated testing strategies (unit, integration, and end-to-end), CI/CD governance, and modern observability practices.
- Mentor fellow engineers through pair programming, architectural discussions, and sharing reusable mental models.
- What Success Looks Like in Year One
- 30 Days: You understand the pod’s current ways of working, the product domain, and active hypotheses. You have established strong collaborative relationships across engineering and product partners and have made your first code contributions.
- 60 Days: You have identified key friction points in the delivery flow, introduced improvements to testing/review practices, and are shipping core product features directly to production.
- 90 Days: You and the pod are shipping faster and learning faster. AI-assisted development workflows and automated testing are embedded effectively into daily coding routines.
- 6 Months: You have shipped meaningful product outcomes, validated or invalidated key product hypotheses with real metrics, and contributed reusable architectural patterns back to the broader engineering community.
RequiredSkills:
- 2 to 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with seniority and scope aligned to individual technical depth, product intuition, and hands-on leadership:
- Feature & Flow Craftsmanship: Translating user journeys into polished UI/UX, robust API contracts, and performant data models with rapid, clean iterative execution.
- System & Platform Ownership: Driving technical discovery with product stakeholders, designing modular service architectures, and guiding feature delivery from whiteboard to production.
- Technical Thought Leadership & Architecture: Setting engineering standards, coaching engineers on mental models and AI-assisted workflows, shaping cloud architectures, and influencing cross-functional product direction through technical excellence.
- Modern Full-Stack Craftsmanship:
- Frontend & Interface Craft: Deep experience with React.js (functional components, hooks, state management), TypeScript/JavaScript, responsive CSS, and modern component systems (Material UI, Tailwind CSS). Passion for building intuitive, accessible, and fast user interfaces.
- Backend & APIs: Robust backend engineering in Python (FastAPI, Flask, Django) or modern backend runtimes, focusing on clean RESTful/GraphQL API design, authentication, and asynchronous processing.
- Databases & Data Modeling: Practical experience with NoSQL/Document databases (RDS PostgreSQL) and relational stores (PostgreSQL), including schema design, query optimization, and data consistency.
- Cloud & DevOps: Hands-on experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS preferred: Lambda, S3, CloudFront, API Gateway, RDS PostgreSQL), Terraform for Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Git/GitHub workflows, and automated CI/CD pipelines.
- AI-Augmented Engineering Fluency:
- Practical proficiency with AI-assisted development tools and coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Devin AI).
- Critical understanding of AI coding tools—knowing how to prompt, direct, evaluate, and test their outputs, as well as recognizing their failure modes, security risks, and architectural anti-patterns.
- Observant- You see around corners. You notice when a team is solving the wrong problem, when a metric is measuring vanity activity instead of outcome, or when a system design will create friction three months down the line. You read the room—and the data—early.
- Curious - You have strong opinions, loosely held. You actively seek out perspectives that challenge your mental models and update them when evidence warrants. You are as curious about user behavior and business context as you are about technology.
- Determined - You drive outcomes, not activity. You know when to push through technical resistance and when to pivot direction—making that call with clarity and conviction. You do not let ambiguity become an excuse for inaction.
