The position emphasizes effective management of product lifecycles, improving cost efficiency, and ensuring compliance while spearheading standardization and sustainable design practices. Collaborate closely with peers and various departments such as Manufacturing and Customer Service to drive product success. This role balances strong leadership skills with technical acuity and thrives on hands-on involvement in the workshop. You will oversee the engineering team to innovate and refine product platforms, ensuring they are manufacturable, scalable, and comply with industry standards.
The role's responsibilities include:
- Mentoring and managing a team focused on design and production of in-market products.
- Steering the architecture, standards, and design strategies for our heavy haul trailer product range.
- Allocating tasks based on production demands, cost efficiency goals, and market feedback.
- Act as the engineering authority for ongoing projects, product adjustments, and platform upgrades.
- Provide prompt engineering solutions within production environments and address design and quality hurdles.
Engage with Manufacturing Engineers:
- Enhance welding, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Maintain and elevate Bill of Materials accuracy and documentation quality.
Drive comprehensive design reviews and manage engineering change processes. Lead initiatives such as design-for-manufacturing and design-to-cost while ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Support sales and service teams by offering technical insights and promoting well-informed decision-making. Elevate product reliability and safety, incorporating lessons from field data into design strategies.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field.
- Expertise in heavy duty trailers, machinery, or transportable equipment.
- Solid understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and production methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience managing product lifecycle in a production setting.
- Hands-on engineering skills paired with strategic problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to simplify complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to align product designs with manufacturing efficiency, cost targets, and reliability standards.
- Proficiency in CAD software, data management tools, and spreadsheets for engineering purposes.
