The Role We Want You For

We are looking for a Procurement Manager who works like a steel project manager: someone with real field experience who can read the drawings, understand how the steel goes together, write a scope fabricators, joist and deck suppliers, and erectors can price without guessing, and break the work down by labor and material the way it will be installed. Constructability, sequencing, trade coordination, and scope of work knowledge are at the core of this role.

Dedicated to structural steel, miscellaneous steel, and joist and deck on large-scale Compute, Data Center, Industrial, Process, Energy, or High Rise projects. Candidates must bring prior hands-on field experience and a working knowledge of how the work is built. Team members are expected to cross-train in other structural and envelope scopes so the team can flex as project needs shift.

    The Specifics of the Role

Drawing Review, Scope, and Design Input

    • Review drawings and specifications at each design milestone and perform independent tonnage, joist, and deck takeoffs
    • Write field-ready scopes with clear inclusions, exclusions, and trade interfaces; drive RFIs to resolution before bid
    • Make design suggestions that reduce cost and schedule: member optimization, joist and deck alternates, simpler connections, standard details, and erection-friendly sequencing

    Constructability, Sequencing, and Trade Coordination

    • Evaluate how every package will be erected: crane locations, shipping, staging, and what must be in place before work starts
    • Build the erection sequence with Operations and the erector and make sure it drives detailing, fabrication, and delivery order
    • Find trade clashes and scope gaps before they reach the field: anchor bolts and embeds, MEP supports and openings, envelope attachments, and fireproofing; confirm every item is owned by exactly one trade

    Pricing, Buyout, and Cost Management

    • Break out pricing by labor and material as installed: material by member class, joists and deck, detailing, shop hours, coatings, freight, erection by sequence and area, and cranes
    • Build Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) bid packages with a labor and material pricing form; lead leveling, negotiation, and award
    • Prequalify fabricators, joist and deck suppliers, and erectors on capacity, AISC and SJI certification, safety, and financial strength
    • Own the basis-of-cost file, reconcile against the GMP, and manage price risk through escalation clauses and early mill orders
    • Price every change independently before negotiating and track cost-to-complete

    Execution and Field Leadership

    • Act as the steel project manager alongside Operations: run coordination meetings and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and joist and deck submittals
    • Monitor fabrication, joist and deck production, delivery, and erection against the sequence and planned production rates
    • Review payment applications and stored material billings for accuracy; maintain fallback bidders
    • Bring field credibility to every decision and partner effectively with superintendents, foremen, and erectors

    Team Contribution

    • Serve as the enterprise steel expert; maintain scope libraries and pricing templates, and turn lessons learned into better tools
    • Cross-train in other structural and envelope scopes and help develop the same breadth in others, so coverage can flex across the team as volume shifts

    Requirements

    • 8+ years as a steel project manager, estimator, fabricator or erector PM, or GC PM
    • At least 3 years of hands-on field experience as a field engineer, superintendent, foreman, erector, or field-based PM; office-only backgrounds are not a fit
    • Strong drawing review, takeoff, and shop drawing review skills
    • Deep understanding of constructability, erection sequencing, and trade coordination
    • Experience writing scopes and building labor and material pricing breakdowns
    • Working knowledge of the AISC Code of Standard Practice, SJI and SDI standards, connection design, OSHA Subpart R, and the steel market
    • Negotiation experience at $5M or more per scope and GMP cost management experience
    • Proficiency in Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, Procore, and Excel

Degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred; equivalent field experience considered
