Procurement Buyer – Commodities & Distribution

Salary: $85,000–$110,000 + potential bonus/profit sharing
Location: West Michigan
Schedule: Primarily Onsite with potential hybrid flexibility. (Must be located in Michigan or moving to West Michigan)

About the Opportunity

Our client is a growing distribution company seeking an experienced Procurement Buyer to join their team. This position will have a strong focus on commodity purchasing (approximately 75%), with the remaining 25% focused on distribution-related purchasing and inventory needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Buyer who enjoys working with major vendors, negotiating pricing, analyzing purchasing opportunities, and playing an important role in the company's overall procurement strategy.

The Procurement Buyer will work as part of a team of Buyers and will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and develop into a leadership role over time.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  
• Manage purchasing activities for assigned commodities and product categories
• 
  
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with major vendors and suppliers
• 
  
• Negotiate pricing, terms, freight, lead times, and other purchasing agreements
• 
  
• Support pricing strategies and help identify opportunities to improve margins
• 
  
• Analyze vendor pricing, purchasing trends, and market conditions
• 
  
• Source products and evaluate new vendor opportunities
• 
  
• Manage purchase orders and monitor vendor performance
• 
  
• Ensure product availability while balancing inventory levels and purchasing costs
• 
  
• Partner with internal teams to understand purchasing needs and market demand
• 
  
• Work closely with other Buyers to coordinate purchasing activities
• 
  
• Assist with inventory planning, replenishment, and forecasting
• 
  
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
• 
  
• Resolve vendor issues involving pricing, delivery, quality, and product availability
• 
  
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and information within the company's systems
• 
  
• Participate in strategic purchasing initiatives and special projects
• 
  
• Take on additional leadership responsibilities as the organization continues to grow
• 
  

Qualifications

• 
  
• 5+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, commodity buying, or strategic sourcing
• 
  
• Experience in distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, or a similar environment
• 
  
• Strong vendor-management and negotiation skills
• 
  
• Experience managing commodities and/or product categories
• 
  
• Strong understanding of pricing, margins, inventory, and purchasing
• 
  
• Ability to analyze purchasing data and make sound business decisions
• 
  
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• 
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
• 
  
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field preferred
•
