Description

Job Title: Process Engineer

Job Description

The Process Engineer leads the design and implementation of manufacturing process solutions for production facilities. This role focuses on raw material storage, processing, thermal processing, mixing and blending, filling, and safety compliance, while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The Process Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to design, deliver, and commission process systems that meet project goals and regulatory requirements across a variety of industrial manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design manufacturing processes that achieve defined project goals and performance criteria.
  • Define detailed processing steps required to transform raw materials into finished products within production systems.
  • Calculate equipment rates and prepare block diagrams and process flow diagrams to ensure all material and utility flows are clearly understood and accurately captured in the design.
  • Engineer process equipment and systems, including the selection and integration of components into complete manufacturing solutions.
  • Perform process calculations to size and select equipment and components, ensuring all designs comply with relevant codes, industry practices, and safety standards.
  • Develop process documentation such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, installation specifications, equipment lists, and controls narratives, and coordinate these elements within the overall design.
  • Coordinate with third-party providers for equipment engineered by others and collaborate with internal and external project team members to integrate process systems into existing plant infrastructure.
  • Support procurement activities for process equipment and installation packages by assisting in the identification of suppliers and subcontractors and contributing technical content for bid packages to define scope.
  • Compile technical engineering documents for bid packages and participate in bid-scope reviews to ensure clarity and completeness.
  • Assist in analyzing vendor and subcontractor proposals, lead design reviews of drawings and 3D models, attend coordination meetings, and review technical submittals for accuracy and compliance.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing of process equipment to verify performance and conformance to specifications.
  • Support the installation of process equipment by reviewing installation submittals and participating in subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Travel to project sites to provide technical assistance, coordinate directly with field staff and subcontractors, identify and resolve technical issues, review installations for correctness, and revise drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
  • Assist with startup and commissioning of process equipment, including preparation of comprehensive documentation of commissioning processes, test results, and system performance.
  • Support process system testing and commissioning activities such as functional testing, performance testing, and safety testing to ensure systems operate as intended.
  • Coordinate with clients and stakeholders during system handover, providing necessary documentation and training for operational staff to ensure smooth transition to ongoing operations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of manufacturing trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements relevant to industrial process systems.
  • Perform other engineering and project-related duties as assigned to support successful delivery of projects.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
  • Minimum of 17 years of experience working with industrial manufacturing systems.
  • Experience with startup and commissioning of process systems (preferred but strongly beneficial).
  • Knowledge of how materials and process media respond to heating, cooling, mixing, blending, and pumping operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software for analysis, documentation, and communication.
  • Solid understanding of industrial processes, process systems, and plant operations.
  • Familiarity with startup and commissioning processes and procedures for process systems.
  • Experience working with process equipment such as cooling towers, chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, and compressors.
  • Experience with overall pipe system design, including line sizing, pressure drop calculations, and velocity considerations.
  • Ability to select appropriate instrumentation for process measurement and control.
  • Ability to size pressure safety valves (PSVs) and apply safety and regulatory requirements in system design.
  • Experience in chemical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or process engineering within manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to travel regularly for site visits, project meetings, and training as required by project needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar design software to create and modify engineering drawings and process documentation.
  • Hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes and production systems design.
  • Experience creating and interpreting P&IDs and process flow diagrams for industrial systems.
  • Experience preparing and contributing to bid proposals and bid packages, including technical scope definition.
  • Ability to work with multiple software packages for design and project coordination.
  • Interest in highly specialized engineering and design work within industrial and manufacturing sectors.
  • Ability to work directly with and learn from an experienced engineering team, contributing to and benefiting from mentorship.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical writing, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Ability to participate in design reviews and coordination meetings and to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Motivation to grow within an industry that offers unique technical challenges and long-term professional development.
