Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer with strong injection molding experience to support new product introduction, mold trials, process development, validation, and ongoing production.

This role will work directly on the manufacturing floor to set up, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize injection molding processes. The Manufacturing Engineer will partner closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, Tooling, and customers to establish robust, repeatable processes that meet quality, delivery, and productivity requirements.

The ideal candidate has practical experience with scientific molding principles, mold trials, Design of Experiments (DOE), process validation including IQ/OQ/PQ, and injection molding troubleshooting.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on injection molding process setup, development, optimization, and troubleshooting for new and existing molds.
  • Lead and support new mold trials, sampling, process development, and production qualification.
  • Develop robust and repeatable molding processes using scientific molding principles and data-driven process development techniques.
  • Plan, execute, and document Design of Experiments (DOE) for new molds, process changes, materials, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and execute manufacturing/process validation activities, including Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ).
  • Partner closely with Quality and Production during validation, process troubleshooting, corrective actions, and ongoing production support.
  • Collect and analyze process data to determine process capability, identify variation, troubleshoot defects, and implement improvements.
  • Troubleshoot molding issues involving tooling, equipment, materials, automation, and process parameters.
  • Develop, document, and maintain accurate mold process sheets, setup parameters, work instructions, and standard work procedures.
  • Participate in new product quoting, mold design reviews, print reviews, and manufacturing feasibility assessments.
  • Provide technical input on mold, tooling, automation, and equipment designs to ensure compatibility with manufacturing and process requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and training to Setup Technicians and Production personnel on scientific injection molding, process control, troubleshooting, robots, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Support new product introduction and process transfer activities from initial mold trial through validated production.
  • Initiate and support deviations related to new products, process changes, material evaluations, and manufacturing improvements.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma/DMAIC, statistical analysis, and other continuous improvement methodologies to improve quality, efficiency, scrap, cycle time, and process capability.
  • Lead and support cost-reduction and continuous improvement projects.
  • Develop and optimize the use of robots, sprue pickers, end-of-arm tooling, and other automation to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot end-of-arm tooling and support automation improvements.
  • Work directly with Setup Technicians and Production personnel to resolve manufacturing issues and provide technical direction as needed.
  • Support customer corrective actions, technical discussions, audits, and customer visits as required.
  • Participate in production meetings and respond to urgent customer or production requirements as needed.
  • Support secondary operations and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing and process information within the ERP system.
  • Stay current on developments in injection molding technology, tooling, automation, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Perform additional projects and assignments as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering/Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering field preferred.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in injection molding or plastics manufacturing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with injection molding process development and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with scientific molding principles and process optimization strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting mold trials and new mold/process development.
  • Working knowledge of DOE and statistical process analysis.
  • Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ or other manufacturing process validation methodologies strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with robotics, automation, CNC equipment, injection molding, and/or compression molding preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • CAD experience preferred.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Production, Quality, Engineering, Tooling, customers, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to provide technical training and guidance to manufacturing personnel.

Responsible for supporting the company Quality Management System and ensuring manufacturing processes consistently produce conforming product. Must understand and follow applicable ISO, regulatory, customer, and internal quality requirements and participate in implementation, training, validation, corrective action, and continuous improvement activities.
