• Become proficient in navigating and programming the assigned DCS/PLC system software through on the job training and self-study.
• Learn the basics of the DCS/PLC hardware, including I/O modules, controllers, servers, and the control network.
• Learn the basics of the assigned unit chemical process and equipment through on the job training and self-study.
• Learn the basics of safety systems and how safety interlocks are implemented via DCS/PLC logic.
• Learn about field instruments, devices and sensors and utilize the knowledge in troubleshooting process upsets.
• Assist Process Control Engineer in implementing active controls projects in process units.
• Assist Process Control Engineer in drafting MOC’s for DCS changes and building code and graphics on the DCS/PLC Simulator to test them.
• Assist Process Control Engineer in troubleshooting day-to-day issues with plant equipment that may be attributed to process controls.
• Propose modifications to DCS/Systems equipment that improve plant performance, safety, or reliability, and reduce costs.
• Monitor and address DCS/PLC alarms, update alarm surveys, propose fixes, and work with unit engineers to execute action items.
• Develop and complete a project as assigned by the project mentor, and develop a Powerpoint presentation on the results of the project to be given to management at the end of the internship period.
• Meet with DCS Manager monthly to assess progress against expectations.
