Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Prostate Artery Embolization Recovery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team in providing specialized care for patients undergoing pulmonary artery embolization procedures. This role involves direct patient care before, during, and after embolization procedures, working closely with interventional radiologists and urologists. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced clinical skills, strong attention to detail, and a deep understanding of vascular procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Procedure Patient Care:

o Perform thorough assessments of patients scheduled for prostate artery embolization, including reviewing medical history, lab results, and imaging studies.

o Assist patient with any questions and education regarding the procedure

o Verify patient identification and procedural details in compliance with safety protocols.

o Initiate IV access, administer pre-procedure medications (sedatives, analgesics, etc.), and monitor for adverse reactions.

o Assist with pre-procedure imaging, such as CT scans or angiograms, as ordered by the physician.

Intra-Procedure Assistance:

o Assist with monitoring of patient’s vital signs, oxygenation, and level of consciousness during the embolization procedure.

o Provide assistance to the interventional radiology team in positioning the patient, preparing equipment, and ensuring sterile technique.

o Administers medications and IV conscious sedation to patients as directed per physician's orders, and in compliance with company, federal, state and local regulations.

o Act as the primary point of contact between the patient and medical team, ensuring clear communication during the procedure.

o Respond to life saving and/or emergent situations appropriately if necessary

Post-Procedure Care:

o Monitor patients in the recovery area, observing for any complications such as bleeding, chest pain, or changes in vital signs.

o Assess post-procedure pain levels and administer pain management interventions as needed.

o Provide clear instructions for discharge, including medication guidance, activity restrictions, and follow-up care.

o Document all patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the patient’s medical record.

o Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or facility policy including patient and family instruction.

Collaboration & Communication:

o Collaborate with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

o Communicate effectively with patients and families, addressing concerns and ensuring they understand the care process.

o Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case reviews, sharing observations, and contributing to care planning.

Patient Education and Support:

o Provide education to patients regarding lifestyle changes, risk factors for prostate vascular conditions, and long-term health management after the embolization procedure.

o Address patient and family concerns and offer emotional support during the recovery process.

Safety and Compliance:

o Follow all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols to ensure patient and staff safety.

o Adhere to infection control standards, ensuring proper sterilization of equipment and hygiene practices.

o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to interventional procedures.

o Pharmacology: Understanding the medications used for moderate sedation, their effects, dosages, and potential complications, including reversal agents. Oversees maintenance of usage logs for all medications with appropriate documentation, as well as, records of drug disposal.

o Airway Management: Skills in maintaining a patent airway, recognizing and managing airway compromise, and utilizing appropriate airway adjuncts.

o Patient Monitoring: Competency in using monitoring equipment (pulse oximeter, cardiac monitor, capnography, etc.) and interpreting vital signs, including respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and blood pressure.

o Assessment and Intervention: Ability to assess patients- pre-sedation, during sedation, and post-sedation, recognize and intervene in complications, and document findings appropriately

o Assumes primary responsibility in an emergency situation and must maintain competency with all emergency operational procedures, and initiate CPR and emergency measures as needed.

o Ensures appropriate operation of equipment and technology necessary for prostate artery embolization procedures, including but not limited, patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices and computers.

o Maintains a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the PAE Suite at all times through regular inspection of facility equipment and operation systems, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance issues.

o Other duties as assigned, within the scope of practice and state regulations.

Qualifications:

Education:

o Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.

o Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.

Certifications:

o Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

o Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.

o Certification in Interventional Radiology Nursing (CRN) or other relevant certifications preferred but not required.

Experience:

o Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with a preference for experience in interventional radiology, cardiology, or critical care.

o Experience in pulmonary artery embolization or related procedures is highly desirable.

o Two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of nursing experience required with increasing responsibility demonstrated in PACU/Recovery.

Skills and Abilities:

o Proficient in assessing, managing, and monitoring patients undergoing interventional procedures.

o Strong clinical judgment with the ability to respond to medical emergencies.

o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

o Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.

o Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

o Compassionate and empathetic with a patient-centered approach to care.

Working Conditions:

o The role may require standing for long periods, assisting in positioning patients, and the ability to move or lift patients as necessary.
