Private Duty Float NursePosition SummaryThe Private Duty Float Nurse provides high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to private duty clients across multiple locations and care settings. This role offers flexibility and requires adaptability, professionalism, and strong clinical judgment. The Float Nurse supports staffing needs by covering open shifts, vacations, and high-acuity cases while maintaining consistency in care standards and patient experience.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide individualized private duty nursing care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric clients in home or facility-based settingsFloat between assigned clients and locations based on operational needsFollow physician orders and individualized care plansPerform skilled nursing tasks such as medication administration, tracheostomy care, ventilator management, wound care, and assessments (as applicable to license and client needs)Accurately document patient care, observations, and changes in conditionCommunicate effectively with patients, families, clinical supervisors, and interdisciplinary teamsMaintain compliance with state regulations, agency policies, and safety standardsPromote patient dignity, comfort, and independenceRespond professionally to varying care environments and family dynamicsQualificationsCurrent, unrestricted LPN or RN license in the applicable stateMinimum 1 year of private duty or home health nursing experience preferredStrong clinical skills and ability to work independentlyFlexible availability to support varying shifts, clients, and locationsReliable transportation and willingness to travel within assigned service areaCurrent CPR certification (BLS required)Excellent communication and time-management skillsKey CompetenciesAdaptability and flexibilityStrong clinical judgmentDependability and professionalismCompassionate, patient-focused careAbility to quickly learn and follow diverse care plansSchedule & Work EnvironmentVariable schedule based on staffing needsMay include days, nights, weekends, and holidaysWork performed primarily in patients' homes or private care settingsWhy This Role MattersThe Private Duty Float Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted, high-quality care for clients while supporting agency operations and care continuity.
