Principle Enterprise Architect
Fully Remote
6 months contract to hire
$95 - $100 p/hr

Position Summary

Our client, a large multi-entity insurance organization, is building out its enterprise architecture practice to bring consistent standards and governance across a growing, matrixed technology organization. This role is a blend of enterprise architecture and hands-on solution architecture: the person will establish and mature EA standards, governance, and cross-entity alignment across infrastructure, integration, applications, and data, while also directly supporting active initiatives that need a strong technical hand, including HR platform modernization work.
This is a senior, highly visible seat reporting into the enterprise architecture leadership team, working across multiple business entities and driving adoption of standards through influence rather than authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and mature enterprise architecture standards and governance across infrastructure, integration, application, and data domains for a multi-entity organization
  • Define and drive adoption of cloud governance standards for an Azure-native environment, including Data Fabric, ADF pipelines, and Power BI/reporting best practices
  • Own integration and API governance strategy, including lifecycle and versioning standards (e.g. n-1 policies)
  • Build and maintain capability maps, holistic technology roadmaps, current-state/future-state views, six R's analyses, and risk profiles across the technology portfolio
  • Partner directly with HR-modernization initiatives, including vendor evaluation, conceptual architecture, comparison documentation, and solution architecture documents (e.g. for a benefits platform replacement)
  • Act as a highly articulate solution architect when needed — translating strategy into concrete architecture artifacts and diagrams for technical and business audiences
  • Introduce architecture frameworks (TOGAF/Zachman-style thinking welcome) pragmatically, adapting methodology to fit a less mature organization rather than imposing heavy process
  • Build relationships and drive alignment with senior technical stakeholders across multiple business units, including some demanding, highly technical counterparts
  • Contribute conceptual thinking on emerging AI use cases, including security and middleware considerations for integrating AI with enterprise data sources
  • Support broader DevSecOps pattern rollout in partnership with the cloud engineering organization

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Deep enterprise architecture background with demonstrated ability to define and land standards and governance across multiple technical domains
  • Strong hands-on experience in Azure-native environments: Data Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Synapse or equivalent, and Power BI
  • Experience producing EA artifacts: capability maps, roadmaps, six R's rationalization analyses, risk profiles, conceptual and comparison documents, and solution architecture documents
  • Strong integration/API governance experience, including versioning and lifecycle standards
  • Comfortable operating as both a strategic enterprise architect and a tactical, delivery-focused solution architect
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influence skills; able to drive adoption without direct authority, including with demanding technical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of TOGAF/Zachman or similar frameworks, with the judgment to apply them pragmatically rather than rigidly
  • Exposure to HR platforms and related ecosystems (e.g. SAP SuccessFactors, Boomi, identity/access tools, contingent workforce platforms) is a plus, though broad architectural thinking is valued over specific product depth
  • High-level familiarity with financial systems/SAP is a plus but not a primary requirement
  • Insurance industry background strongly preferred, particularly within large, complex IT organizations with matrixed or overlapping stakeholder structures

Education and Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in enterprise and/or solution architecture roles
  • Experience within large, complex IT organizations required; insurance industry background strongly preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • TOGAF, Zachman, or similar architecture certification a plus, not required
