    Description

AWS Databases is seeking an experienced and strategic Principal Technical Program Manager to serve as an advisor to the General Manager of commercial databases. This is a high visibility, high impact role that blends the operational rigor and technical depth of an Amazon Principal TPM with the strategic advisory and organizational leadership responsibilities.

You will be a trusted advisor and force multiplier to the GM, enabling the leadership team and the broader organization to operate with clarity, focus, and impact. You will drive the rhythm of the business, translate leadership priorities into clear action plans, own cross organizational execution, and ensure that strategic discussions turn into measurable outcomes.

This role requires a unique combination of technical depth, strategic thinking, executive communication, and the ability to influence without authority across organizational boundaries. You will operate at the intersection of business operations, organizational health, and program execution, making this one of the most impactful roles in the organization.

    Key job responsibilities

Strategic Advisory and Executive Support - Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to the business, providing insights, analysis, and recommendations to support decision making. Translate executive strategy into cross functional goals, initiative roadmaps, and operating mechanisms with clear owners, milestones, and success metrics.

Rhythm of Business and Operational Excellence - Own and drive the rhythm of business: leadership staff meetings, business reviews, planning cycles, goal setting, and executive updates. Build scalable mechanisms and operating frameworks that improve organizational effectiveness and drive accountability across the team.

GTM Strategy and Field Alignment - Partner with GTM to align on strategy with product roadmap, ensuring field readiness and enablement. Spearhead escalation resolution frameworks for high visibility customer and leadership escalations, coordinating cross functionally.

Organizational Health and Culture - Partner with HR to develop strategies for employee engagement, morale, and leadership effectiveness. Organize leadership offsites, all hands meetings, team building activities, and engagement programs to foster collaboration and innovation.

Executive Communications and Stakeholder Management - Build trusted relationships across AWS leadership and partner organizations. Establish and drive executive communications, leadership narratives, and organization wide initiatives.

    A day in the life

This is not a status reporting role. You will be the person who connects the strategic vision of the GM to the operational reality of a large, distributed engineering organization. You will be escalated TO, not escalating up. You will build the mechanisms that enable a world class organization to operate with discipline, velocity, and clarity.

If you thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution, are energized by ambiguity, and want to make an outsized impact on one of AWS"s most critical businesses, we want to hear from you.

Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
