    Highlights

You will define what a good answer is, build the measurement that proves it, and drive the work that makes it better: deciding what quality even means when there is no single right answer to "what should I get my dad", owning the evaluations that stand in for hundreds of millions of customers, and identifying the opportunities that will make this the best shopping AI in the world before they are obvious to anyone else. You will own the quality metric itself and the evaluation system behind it, including the agentic judges, the benchmark missions, and the competitive comparisons that tell us whether we are ahead, and you will invent the successor metric when today"s stops separating good from great.

    Description

We are seeking a Principal Product Manager - Technical to own answer quality for Alexa for Shopping (formerly Rufus), the conversational shopping AI used by hundreds of millions of customers every month. The bar you set is what earns that title, and it moves higher every sprint, so you will clear it and then raise it again.

    Key job responsibilities

You will own answer quality strategy and roadmap, driving clarity where the problem and opportunity are not yet defined. You will own the quality metric itself and the evaluation system behind it, including the agentic judges, the benchmark missions, and the competitive comparisons that tell us whether we are ahead, and you will invent the successor metric when today"s stops separating good from great. Your charter is not to report the number but to move it, finding where the largest quality gains are available, turning them into work for the teams who can deliver them, and making the call when a change that lifts one dimension costs another. You will partner closely with multiple engineering and science teams and will drive the cross-organizational decisions to define and influence the future of shopping AI.

    About the team

Our mission is to fundamentally change how customers shop on Amazon by leveraging the state of the art in AI. Every month, hundreds of millions of customers use Alexa for Shopping to help with shopping decisions. We are building a conversational shopping experience that understands what customers need, provides trustworthy and helpful responses, and makes the entire shopping journey effortless. We will build the best shopping AI in the world - and then do it again in the next sprint.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
