    Job Description:

    Position: Principal

    Grades 9-12

    Reports to the Board of Trustees

    Principal Responsibilities

    Stamford Big Picture Learning Academy Charter School is seeking to fill its principal position. The principal drives academic leadership, student achievement, shapes a safe and supportive school culture, and manages the daily operations.

    Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Provide visionary leadership and foster strong professional relationships within the school community including the Board of Trustees, staff, students, families and external partners
    • Champion high academic and behavioral standards to ensure excellent student achievement
    • Model and uphold a culture of high expectations, accountability and professionalism
    • Lead policy development related to discipline, attendance and student conduct
    • Guide faculty in curriculum planning and instructional best practices
    • Manage and ensure compliance with required reports to the authorizers, funders and regulatory agencies
    • Participate in the recruitment, mentoring and development of all staff
    • Supervise and evaluate instructional and support staff
    • Coordinate and support school-wide events and programs
    • Oversee building operation including maintenance of the facilities, equipment and instructional materials
    • Ensure smooth and effective day-to day school operations

    Qualifications

    • Masters Degree in Education or a related field
    • Minimum 5 years of successful teaching and 3 years in a leadership role at a high school level (e.g. Assistant Principal, Dean)
    • State Building Leader Certification (SBL) required or actively pursued.
    • Strong dedication to the mission of advancing urban education and historically underserved student groups
    • All employees of the school must be fingerprinted and cleared to work prior to the start date
    • Commitment to continuous learning and ability to accept feedback and work as a team

    SBPLA is a small community start-up and the principal must be visible and engaged with families and throughout Stamford neighborhoods. Salary is dependent on skill, mission alignment and the school's growth progression. Consideration of salary will also be commensurate with experience, degree and certification status, and other factors. SBPLA offers a generous benefits package.
