Principal Manufacturing Engineer – Laser Processing & Advanced Manufacturing

Location: Suffield, CT

This is an opportunity for a senior manufacturing engineer who has become the person others turn to when the laser process gets difficult.

We’re recruiting a Principal Manufacturing Engineer for a growing medical device manufacturing organization in Suffield, CT. This is a high-level technical role focused on laser processing, advanced manufacturing, and the development of new manufacturing capabilities.

The position goes beyond supporting existing production. You’ll help evaluate new customer opportunities, determine how challenging products can be manufactured, select the right technologies and equipment, and help take new processes from concept through production.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll serve as a technical leader for laser processing and advanced manufacturing, working across engineering, operations, quality and commercial teams.

Responsibilities include:

• Serve as a subject matter expert for laser-processing technologies such as laser welding, cutting, marking and micromachining.
• Develop precision manufacturing processes from early concept through production.
• Evaluate new customer requirements and determine technical feasibility and manufacturing approach.
• Support DFM, process development, technical quotations and manufacturing strategy.
• Evaluate and recommend new equipment, technologies and capital investments.
• Troubleshoot complex manufacturing and process problems.
• Support equipment implementation, process validation and production scale-up.
• Work directly with customers and internal technical teams on challenging new programs.
• Establish manufacturing best practices and help advance laser-processing capabilities across multiple operations.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on difficult manufacturing challenges.

What We’re Looking For

This role is intended for an experienced engineer with substantial hands-on knowledge of precision laser processing and the ability to apply that knowledge to real manufacturing problems.

Ideal experience includes:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years of laser processing or related advanced-manufacturing experience.
• Strong technical experience with laser welding, cutting, marking, micromachining or other precision laser processes.
• Manufacturing process development from concept through production.
• Capital equipment evaluation and implementation.
• Technical troubleshooting and root-cause problem solving.
• Customer-facing engineering and/or technical quotation experience.
• Experience working across manufacturing, engineering, quality and commercial organizations.
• Medical device or other highly regulated manufacturing experience is preferred.
